The Key West Housing Authority (KWHA) celebrated the groundbreaking today of the 54-unit Poinciana Plaza Expansion Project.

The development will consist of two residential buildings containing 54 affordable rental apartments for workforce families earning between 100% and 120% of Area Median Income (AMI). The project includes 32 one-bedroom, 16 two-bedroom, and 6 three-bedroom units and is expected to house approximately 150 residents.

Of the 54 units, 20 will be designated for tourism industry employees, while 34 will serve moderate-income workforce households. KWHA is also working with the City of Key West to designate four units for members of the Key West Police Department.

"This development will provide much-needed one, two, and three-bedroom affordable housing units for working families who contribute so much to the fabric of this community” said Randy Sterling, Executive Director of the Key West Housing Authority. "It represents a commitment to preserving the character of our community by ensuring that those who work here can afford to live here."

The project was made possible through partnerships with the City of Key West, Monroe County, the Monroe County Land Authority, and the Tourist Development Council. Importantly, no local property tax or sales tax dollars are being used to fund the development. Funding is being provided through tourist tax revenues.

The project team includes the Housing Authority of the City of Key West as the developer, Pope Scarbrough Architects as the architect, and Marino Construction Group as the general contractor.
