"Never Forget"

What separates us from the animals, what separates us from the chaos, is our ability to mourn people we’ve never met. -David Levithan

🌊 Salt air: "I live by the ocean."
🚨Fire alarm devices: "We noticed."

This isn't dirt.
It's corrosion.

And corrosion is one of the biggest hidden enemies of fire alarm systems in coastal environments. Salt and humidity work their way into the copper and contacts, eating the metal from the outside in. That blackened conductor used to look like the clean wire. The blue-green crust on the detector is the same thing — copper literally breaking down.

If your panel keeps showing random troubles, this could be why. A trouble signal is a warning — don't ignore it.

Well… that escalated quickly

Florida weather doesn’t mess around. One minute it’s paradise, the next you’re watching a funnel cloud develop right in front of you.

Your guests love the breeze. Your energy bill agrees.

Every time a balcony door stays open, your A/C runs full blast- and your energy bill climbs . Smart sensors detect open doors and pause the A/C.

No guest disruption.
No wasted energy.
Just savings.

🐜 Tiny tenants. Big trouble.

This is a fire sprinkler waterflow switch — a small but very important device connected to the fire alarm system.

In the Florida Keys, outdoor and mechanical-room fire alarm equipment deals with heat, humidity, salt air, insects, and dirt every day. That is why regular inspection and maintenance matter.

Fire protection is not just having equipment installed — it is making sure the equipment is clean, connected, and ready when needed.

A false alarm doesn’t just wake your guests — it affects their entire stay.

Unnecessary fire alarm activations can lead to complaints, negative reviews, refunds, and lost repeat business.

Annual NFPA 72 inspections help identify issues like dirty smoke detectors, weak backup batteries, and loose connections before they create problems.

In hospitality, your fire alarm system is not just about code compliance — it’s part of the guest experience.

Barnes Alarm Systems has been serving hotels, resorts, and commercial properties throughout the Florida Keys since 1991.
