⭐ August at Hermanos de la Calle ❤️
August was a huge month. We served 356 people experiencing homelessness, and 174 made it forward. Over the last 12 months, we walked with 2,932 people, with 2,036 success stories. Since May 2021, we’ve already touched 7,561 lives, and 6,884 are now off the streets. Every number is a story, a family, a hope.
Affordability is one key factor for being homeless in Miami: We live in the second most expensive city in the country, even above NYC and LA. It takes $47,784 for one adult to cover the basics and $114,480 for a family of four. For many, it’s very difficult… and that’s why we’re here!
This month, we celebrated 14 baptisms at Corpus Christi, welcomed new births at the maternity home, and worked at the Government Center helping brothers and sisters sleeping in the park. We also won a new Homeless Trust grant for Homeless Prevention: now we walk the whole path, from people about to lose their home to those who make it into a place of their own. With dignity. With respect. Because every person counts.
We also said goodbye with heavy hearts to two friends from the street: Félix Vega and Iris Berlín. May God receive them in His glory.
Let’s review our programs!
🌿 Maternity
Kaleb and Daneysi were born. Today, we have 13 moms, 7 who are pregnant, and more babies on the way in September and October. Casa Santa María is running beautifully, with 4 moms living there.
🇺🇸 Veterans
63 active veterans and 50 new referrals this month.
🏠 Housing
30 homes + the convent. More than 200 people under a roof. If you want to visit, that’s a huge help: so many need to talk, to be heard, to stop being invisible.
🏨 Hotels + Families
82 people were in the program this month, mostly families. With school back, activities are already being planned to bring some joy to the kids. If you have an idea, write to us.
🙌 We’re still growing
