Eduardo!
Vamos a hacerlo valer!
Vamos que se puede!

What a powerful day for our community!

Motel Ernesto got a full refresh thanks to Commissioner Rosado, the Kiwanis from Little Havana, Gables and Groves Painting, Home Depot, and an army of motivated high school students who proved that service has no age limit.

Hermanos de la Calle and our partner organizations shelter families here — and now the space reflects the hope we work to build every day.
Proud, grateful, inspired.

Con este equipo salimos campeones siempre!
Vamos que se puede!

April! This month we served 346 brothers and sisters in need, and 182 of them are now sleeping under a safe roof tonight.

Moments that stayed with us this month:
• El Convento officially opened its doors, and today 12 people have found not just housing there, but dignity, comfort, and a place to call home.
• We shared two beautiful community nights at Motel Ernesto — another movie night hosted by the amazing young volunteers from Film for All (pictured), and a joyful bingo night thanks to Teens for the Homeless. So much laughter and love.
• After a long process, we were finally able to release the humanitarian aid container in Santiago de Cuba. The supplies are now reaching the people who need them most. In the middle of so much darkness — without food, without power — we hope to be a small ray of hope.
• We also confirmed our June 6th fundraising gala, organized by Francis Suarez alongside commissioners Ralph Rosado and René García. Their support gives us even more strength to keep going.

Our Programs:

Veterans 🇺🇸 — 15 new referrals, 131 veterans currently receiving services, 13 housed, and 4 families able to stay in their homes.

Hearts for Life 💙 — We currently have 10 moms in the home; a new record! Three babies are already here with us, and three more are expected in May.

Housing 🏠 — 30 active homes and one multifamily property with space for 25 residents.

Outreach 🚶‍♂️ — We continue working every day to make sure no one is left on the streets. The biggest challenge is having enough safe, sustainable places for people to go and while it’s not easy, little by little, we’re making progress.

Hotel Program 🛏️ — an average of 80 people per day found shelter through the hotel program this month. 13 families secured permanent housing.

And the volunteer-led events continue bringing so much joy to everyone staying there. Maybe someone else wants to organize the next one? ✨

Thank you for walking alongside us and thank you for continuing to show up for those who need it most. 💛

Thank you CNN, Carolina Peguero, Abel Alvarado and the whole team for shining a light on our story and our community — and for giving light to those who have fallen through the cracks. Your coverage brings visibility to people who are too often overlooked, unheard, or forgotten. On behalf of Hermanos de la Calle, we are deeply grateful for the space to share our truth and for helping amplify the voices of those who need it most. 🙏.

Marisol y Edwin! AMDG

January came in strong! Another month flew by—and we keep going. Here are this month’s numbers:

We helped 319 brothers and sisters experiencing homelessness, and 193 of them were placed in safe housing.
* Since we began in May 2021: we’ve served 6,311 people, and 5,819 of them now have a roof over their heads.

Now for program by program news:

Hearts for Life (our maternity program)
Baby Nathan was born! Lisandra’s little boy is now home, along with four other babies.

Looking back with Sister Emma: since we welcomed Yaneibys, our very first mom in June 2024, 25 babies have been born through the program.
* 19 were born to moms who were safely living in our home.
* 6 were born to moms we couldn’t house, but whom we supported so they could stay in safe places.
* And we referred 20 more moms to other programs.

And the BIG news of the month: Casa Santa María is officially open! This is the next step for moms graduating from the program—a safe place for them and their babies. We’ll have 14 moms and their children living across three neighboring houses.

Veterans
We received 35 new referrals, secured rapid rehousing for 22, and helped 13 prevent eviction. Altogether, we’re currently working with 177 veterans to make sure none of them end up without a home.

Families
Thanks to the Bezos Foundation grant, we’re going full speed ahead. In January alone, we helped 30 families experiencing homelessness. Right now, about 22 families are staying at Ernesto while we work to find them a quick and safe path forward.

If you’re able to organize a group to provide meals once a week, that would be a huge help

Love Attack (outreach)
It’s been incredible to see so many volunteers step up during this cold wave. We were able to bring nearly 100 people to safety.

Housing (shared homes)
We’ve reached 30 houses! That means 200 people now have a place to call home.
We still need volunteers to stop by and chat, mow lawns, paint, help with transportation, or lend a hand however they can.

How can you help?
With whatever you have—donations, time, spreading the word, a prayer. It all matters.

Let’s keep going—we can do this! 💪✨
