While Kewaunee's beloved seagulls are an internationally protected migratory species nothing says that you cannot deter them from roosting (and destroying all upon which their droppings fall). Say hello to Bird-B-Gone Professional Bird Control Products' "bird spider." Later this month ten of these will be permanently installed atop 402 Milwaukee's compressors and vents while 250' of Bird-B-Gone's mega bird spikes will line the parapet caps. Happy to share product information with others wishing to join our seagull "unwelcome wagon!"

This relief celebrating the bounty of the harvest has graced the front of the Ballering Building for more than 140 years. The metal work has held up amazingly well and it is poised for cleaning, polishing and some paint to preserve it through its second century! When you come to dine and drink at The Ballering pause from across Milwaukee Street to appreciate this gem.

The debut of The Ballering - Kewaunee, Wisconsin approaches and people are asking about the name. The 402 Milwaukee Street building was built by the J. A. Ballering & Co shoe and leather goods company in 1882. It was Kewaunee’s first “fireproof” building and the first with an elevator. The Ballering name was on the building until the early 1890s when Sen. George Grimmer acquired the property and the property was then referred to as the “Grimmer Block.” The Selner plumbing business was established there in the late 1920s.
