Over the last 8 months we have been working with Henry Township Volunteer Fire Department on a grant application through Northern Indiana Community Foundation. We are proud to announce that we have been awarded $ 10,400 for firefighter Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) bags. In the hands of our volunteers they will be utilized to protect and help our citizens in an emergency, but can also be deployed to help a fellow firefighter who is hurt or injured inside a structure with vital oxygen.

Over the last 2 days our volunteers have been busy responding to calls.

1. Thursday afternoon KFD was requested for mutual aid with Star City Fire Department on a large grain elevator on fire. Working with departments from 4 different counties and 10 other departments! Truck 1, Support 3, Squad 5, & Tanker 6 made the run, and after roughly 4 hours on scene were released.

2. Today at roughly 11 am we were requested again by Winamac Volunteer Fire Department for a fully involved house fire. Truck 1 & Tanker 6 made the run, and were released after assisting for an hour and a half.

Always willing to lend a hand, no matter the boundary lines! We couldn’t do it without our dedicated volunteers!

The last few weeks our members have been busy in their free time! We were able to help out the Fulton County Emergency Management Agency by adding some lighting to their gators. These all terrain vehicles are used for a wide variety of special events and emergencies!

Big things have been happening in Kewanna!

Each year, Anheuser-Busch pauses beer production to produce emergency drinking water, and in partnership with National Volunteer Fire Council, ensures volunteer firefighters have the critical hydration they need during extreme heat. We’re proud to be one of the departments receiving this donation (over 2300 cans),to help keep our volunteers hydrated during fires and extended emergency responses.

Yesterday, at approximately 1:15A.M. We were dispatched mutual aid to a structure fire with Rochester Fire Department & Aubbeenaubbee Fire Department. Once on scene crews assisted with suppression, overhaul, and water shuttle operations. Engine 1, Squad 5, and Tanker 6 made the run and were on scene for roughly 4 hours.
