This is for everyone that lives out in our Abney community.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation will temporarily close and detour part of Bethune Road for bridge repairs on the bridge over Little Lynches River beginning March 24. The closure is expected to last until early April.

As part of this closure, a detour route will be put in place. A map of the detour can be found below.

Congratulations to former Chief Chris Jones on his promotion to Battalion Chief at Lugoff Fire Department. We are all proud of you Chris

*PROMOTION ANNOUNCEMENT*
(Former Captain) Chris Jones has been promoted to Battalion Chief.
Battalion Chief Chris Jones started his fire service career in May 2000 by joining the Buffalo-Mt. Pisgah Fire Department (BMPFD) Junior Firefighter program at age 16. While working a full-time information technology career, Chief Jones moved through the volunteer ranks to ultimately lead the BMPFD as Fire Chief in 2009. Chief Jones continued to serve at BMPFD until moving to the Lugoff community in 2021.
In November 2015, Chief Jones was hired at Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LFR) to serve as our full-time Volunteer Recruitment and Retention Coordinator/Training Officer. Chief Jones brought new life to our volunteer programs by recruiting, training, and retaining numerous volunteer firefighters. Chief Jones now oversees 18 volunteers at LFR and serves as the department-wide training officer for all career, part time and volunteers.
Chief Jones has a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Administration and holds the following major certifications to include: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, International Code Council Fire Inspector I, Federal Aviation Administration Small Unmanned Aircraft System Pilot, and International Association of Arson Investigators Fire Investigation Technician. Chief Jones is a graduate of the 2015-16 South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association Leadership Institute.

Chief Jones is a South Carolina Fire Academy certified instructor and certified South Carolina Fire marshal. Chief Jones resides in Lugoff with his wife Jaime and daughter Sarah. Congratulations Battalion Chief Jones!

Just a reminder, Mt.Pisgah Rd between Scott Rd and Doc Pate Rd will be closed starting today. It will be closed for about 12 weeks. Expected time to be finished is December 11th. Detour will be set up to help you get around. The detour will take just over 3 miles to get around.

Our sympathy and prayers goes out to the family of Mr. JD Newman. JD had passed away this morning. JD was one of our long time members that helped start Buffalo-Mt. Pisgah Fire Department back in 1967. He was the Commissioner for about 20 years. Keep the department and family in your prayers. As soon as funeral arrangements are made we will let everyone know

Outage Update:
Due to high winds and rain, we have roughly 200 outages and a circuit down at our Gates Ford Substation. Crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore service.

Tonight Kershaw County Council passed a resolution declaring May 17, 2023 as Cleveland School Fire Day.

On May 17, 1923, a fire broke out in the Cleveland School at their graduation play. This fire claimed the lives of 77 children and adults.

This fire resulted in the enhancement and amendment of laws and fire codes nationwide.

On May 16 and 17 KCFS, Camden FD, Lugoff FD, SC Firefighter's Association and community members will be holding multiple events to honor and remember the lives lost at this tragic event.

Two overnight fires for Kershaw County Fire Service.

Last night KCFS responded to two house fires in abandoned structures. The first one was reported just after 8:20 pm at the 1000 block of Keys Ln, Kershaw. Battalion 2 arrived to report a residential structure well involved. Units from Station 14, 17, 18, and 22 worked to bring the fire under control.

The second fire came in around 10:45 pm in the 2000 Block of McCaskill Rd, Bethune. Units arrived to report a single wide mobile home on fire. Stations 14, 17, 18, and 22 responded to this incident.

Both fires are still under investigation.
