Note: The City of Kerrville has currently turned off all comments for all Facebook posts for several reasons. The City established its social media accounts as a way to publicize and spread public information. The City intends to continue to use it for this purpose. However, based upon the consistent use of that information, through comments and other responses, the City believes its information is being intentionally misconstrued, manipulated, or used in ways that confuse the information provided. In addition, a significant amount of activity on the City’s sites include comments and other responses that seem to be intentionally divisive, take away from the purpose of the public information, are entirely irrelevant, and frankly, have no public purpose. Thus, to ensure clarity of its communications, the City has chosen to discontinue the ability to respond to its posts. The City may revisit this issue in the future.

Good morning Kerrville. Our KPD patrol officers have been keeping a close eye on street conditions. This slow moving system has resulted in steady rain and we can expect to see some high water in slow draining areas. Hill Country Drive at SH 16 S is blocked off. Officers are checking other areas prone to street flooding. Drive very slowly through standing water or avoid these areas altogether if possible. Do not drive into moving or flowing water, it only takes six inches to float a vehicle. Do not drive around barricades.

All of our area is under a Flood Watch from 7pm this evening through 7pm Tuesday. We could see heavy showers capable of producing flooding. Be aware of slow draining streets if we see heavy, sudden downpours. We have had vehicles stall out as they tried to drive through deep standing water. Use caution and stay weather aware.

A Flood Watch is in effect for South Central Texas from 7 PM this evening through 7 PM Tuesday, June 16. Heavy rain and lightning are expected with isolated pockets of more than 8 inches of rain possible. This rain may fall quickly in torrential downpours. Life threatening flooding is possible somewhere within the Flood Watch area. Stay weather aware and remember: turn around, don't drown.

Every year on the 14th of June, the United States celebrates the Stars and Stripes with the annual holiday of Flag Day. Though Flag Day may not be as widely known or celebrated as Independence Day or other patriotic holidays, it commemorates an important day in our history. It celebrates the birthday of the Stars and Stripes, which was officially adopted as the national flag of the United States on this day in 1777.

“We identify the flag with almost everything we hold dear on earth; peace, security, liberty, our family, our friends, our home… But when we look at our flag and behold it emblazoned with all our rights, we must remember that it is equally a symbol of our duties. Every glory that we associate with it is the result of duty done.” — Calvin Coolidge

Great stuff coming next week!

Last evening, Kerrville Fire Department Chief Eric Maloney took a moment during City of Kerrville, TX - City Hall City Council meeting to recognize his “big brother in blue,” KPD Chief Chris McCall as his retirment date draws near. These two chiefs have formed a strong team. As Chief Maloney said, Chief McCall has served this community with integrity and compassion, and he will be missed. Our thanks to The Kerrville Daily Times reporter Haeley Carpenter for these pictures.
