Kern, who was part of a group of settlers led by Captain Joseph Reddeford Walker in 1845-46. They camped at a fork of two rivers which is now in the middle of Lake Isabella. These two rivers are now the South Fork and North Fork of the Kern. The 1848 gold rush led to the formation of a town called Rogersville, later renamed Whiskey Flat after the introduction of saloons and renamed Kernville in 1861.

Wildfire Preparedness Starts with Community Input.

The Kern Fire Safe Council is asking Kern River Valley residents to help shape the next update of the Kern County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP).

This is an opportunity for community members to share local knowledge, discuss wildfire concerns, and help identify projects and priorities that can reduce wildfire risk and strengthen protection efforts throughout the region.

Whether you’re a homeowner, resident, business owner, or simply interested in wildfire preparedness, your input can make a difference. Kick off the season at the Kernville Summer Festival, presented by Camping on the Kern, on Saturday, June 13 from 9 AM–3 PM! Enjoy live music, shop local makers and vendors, grab some delicious food, and soak up all the good vibes in the heart of Kernville.
Make a day of it and bring your friends and family! And don’t worry if you can’t make this one—the Summer Festival returns every second Saturday from June through September, giving you four chances to celebrate everything that makes Kernville so special.

What a splash Whitewater Wednesday turned out to be! 🌊☀️ From first-timers to seasoned paddlers, the river was full of smiles, laughs, and unforgettable memories.
A huge shoutout to our incredible guides and rafting partners who made it all possible. Your passion, expertise, and love for the Kern River create experiences people will never forget. Thank you to Sierra South, Whitewater Voyages, and Momentum River Expeditions for showing everyone why our river is one of Kernville’s greatest adventures.
We can’t wait to do it all again next year! 🚣💙
