On December 13, 2023, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced 385 recipients of the Safe Streets for All (SS4A) grant program, receiving a combined total of $817 million. The Piedmont Triad Regional Council was awarded $500,000 to create a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan for the region. The goal of this plan is to make streets safer for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists with the eventual goal to eliminate roadway fatalities and serious injuries.

PTRC will create a task force to oversee the plan development, implementation, and monitoring. Under this grant, PTRC will research existing conditions and historical trends of roadway crashes (including crash severity and contributing factors), analyze specific safety needs/concerns, and develop a geospatial network of higher-risk locations.

PTRC is one of 16 entities selected to receive funding in North Carolina. The State received a total of $4,269,458 in grant funding. For more information about Safe Streets for All, please visit: https://www.transportation.gov/grants/SS4A

PTRC was able to take a staff outing to the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro. We were able to participate in the Animal Ambassador program where we were able to meet a bunny, tortoise, and snake! Afterwards we were able to explore the zoo, where I was lucky enough to get a few pictures of a few animals! If you have not been to the North Carolina Zoo it is a must see in North Carolina as it is the largest natural habitat zoo in the world!
