September at The Rest Stop… can you dig it?! ✌🏻🪩🎶

We went back to the ’70s today with ’70s music, coffee, conversation, and table games—and since today is National Coloring Day, we colored owls, groovy pictures, peace signs, and disco balls! ✌️🌸🪩

We’re hanging onto summer for one more week with summer-themed Bingo led by Louise and Ann. Then Dinesh gave us a little wine experiment! We had mason jars filled with water, and when we shook them, they magically turned into “wine.” In my case, it was blue Kool-Aid! Dinesh tied it all together with a wonderful Bible lesson about Jesus turning water into wine.

Lunch was provided by The Crossing Church of Kernersville, and it was AMAZING! 😋We enjoyed meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and green beans. A huge thank-you to everyone who helped prepare, serve, and clean up our delicious meal at The Rest Stop!

After lunch, Rob had us cracking up with ’70s trivia! 😂 There were lots of laughs as we tested our memories with questions about old TV shows, movies, music, and all kinds of fun ’70s facts. It was amazing how one question could bring back a favorite memory or story!

Then we were moving and grooving with Lisa, who is finally back from Texas! She had us stretching, flexing, and exercising from our chairs. We sure missed her! 💪🎶

We were also blessed with a special guest, Denise Wilson, owner of Share A Smile Ministry. Denise has a beautiful voice, and we always love hearing her sing and listening to her stories about her Daddy. 🩷

And we couldn’t end a ’70s day without ’70s Pictionary! We had so much fun guessing our friends drawings of bell-bottom jeans, a boom box, TV antenna, lava lamp, rotary phone, clothesline, and so much more. The pictures brought back memories, stories, and plenty of laughs! 🤣

What a blast of a day! 🥰. Thank you to all of my amazing volunteers and friends who make The Rest Stop such a special place. We couldn’t do what we do without you!

❤️ What a beautiful and meaningful day of service!

Our Dental & Health Clinic was a tremendous success, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to serve members of our community. Seeing people receive care, compassion, and support reminded us of the incredible impact we can make when we come together.

A very special THANK YOU to , the dedicated volunteers from a local dental office, and for generously giving their time, talents, and hearts to make this event possible. 🦷❤️

We are truly grateful for everyone who helped make this day a blessing to so many. Together, we are stronger, and together, we can make a difference.

💜 Caregivers need a haven, too. 💜

Today, The Rest Stop opened the doors to our very first Caregiver’s Haven support group—and what a special morning it was! ☀️

Caregiving can be a journey that sometimes feels lonely. That’s why it’s so important for caregivers to take time for themselves, connect with others who understand, share their experiences, and learn from the stories and wisdom of those walking a similar path. Our first group of caregivers to meet had had six individuals.

While the caregivers were down the hall with Anne White facilitating the support group, their loved ones were with us at The Rest Stop. Our first gathering was a small, intimate group of 10, giving everyone an opportunity to talk, listen, laugh, and connect. We shared memories of what our childhood dinner tables looked like, and some wonderful stories and memories came from those conversations. ❤️

Of course, we had to have some fun, too! We named 20 things that remind us of the beach because we’re holding on to summer as long as we can! 🏖️ (Fall isn’t officially here until September 22! 😉)

Then came a round of Wheel of Fortune, with Rosemary doing a fantastic job solving the puzzle! 👏🏻

We ended our morning with the I Spy game using the fun sensory cylinders Anne White made for us. 🔎

What a fun, high energy day at The Rest Stop! 🙌🏻 ⚡️We started with coffee, conversation, and catching up with our friends about their Labor Day weekend. We also welcomed some new faces, as well as a few that were away during the summer months. Welcome back friends!

Lynn Fields showed us the fun of paint pouring on canvas. Once the paint was poured, we watched in amazement 😳as the colors continued to change and create something completely unique. 🎨 Lynn we hope you’ll come back soon! 

Then it was time for one of our favorite activities, Cardio Drumming with Pam Link! 🥁 We dance, laugh, work out our frustrations, and have a whole lot of fun. And yes, our guys love it just as much as the ladies!

Our competitive crew finished the morning with a Wheel of Fortune game. They did a fantastic job solving the puzzles! 👍🏻

A huge thank-you to Larry Redfearn and Bunker Hill UMC for providing a delicious, hearty lunch, complete with peaches, peas & carrots! And to our dear friend Jan Ruhland for providing a scrumptious birthday cake for dessert. Again, a big shout out and huge thank you, Larry, Bethany Café, Brenda, Angela, Tom, and the entire kitchen crew for taking such great care of us! 😋🐓🫛🥕🍑🎂🤤

After lunch, it was movie time! Anne White brought the popcorn, water, and a hilarious episode of The Andy Griffith Show. We especially love that she dresses the part when she comes to entertain us! 📺🍿

We ended our day on a high note with the amazing Strum Troupers Ukulele Group! 🎶 If you haven’t heard them, you are missing out! Our friends absolutely love their variety of old favorites, gospel songs, and feel-good tunes. Today we enjoyed the banjo, ukulele, and a brand-new instrument. Take a look at the pictures and see if you can guess what it is! 😉 Alan Alston you might need to put in the comments what else you played besides the ukulele for us. 😬

And my favorite part of the day? Watching everyone leave with big smiles, relaxed shoulders, and full hearts. 💜
