MEDIA RELEASE…

10/08/2024
Captain P Pevehouse

Ref: Wanted Subject, Jeremiah McCool

In the early morning hours of 10/6/2024, a Sebastian County deputy conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Zero Street and Wheeler Avenue in Fort Smith.

The driver of the vehicle continued to the west stopping near the Oklahoma state line. Once the driver stopped, the driver opened the door to the vehicle and got out.

The deputy gave commands for the driver to stop and return to his vehicle. The driver instead began to run.

Other units were notified the driver was fleeing. The deputy gave chase. The driver entered a thickly vegetated area near the railroad tracks and the deputy lost sight of the subject.

The deputy reported as he investigated the brushy area, he saw two muzzle flashes and heard two gunshots coming from the brush. Due to having no cover where he was, the deputy retreated to find cover.

The deputy also realized there was still a passenger in the vehicle who had remained. Through his interaction with this individual, the deputy believed the person that ran was Jeremiah McCool. The passenger was later released.

Once other units arrived to assist a perimeter of the area was set up. A drone unit was also deployed to help in the search for the male subject.

The area was cleared shortly thereafter, and investigators took over the scene. Investigators were able to identify Jeremiah McCool, 32, of Wister, Oklahoma as the subject who ran and fired a gun from the bushes from items left behind on the scene.

An arrest warrant was issued for McCool for Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, class Y felony, with a $100,000 bond.

McCool’s description is 5’5” and weighing 140 lbs. He has black short hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a multi-colored shirt, blues jeans, and tan work boots.

Since the incident, investigators have been working with other authorities to determine McCool’s whereabouts.

Multiple leads have been followed. McCool should be considered armed and dangerous.

If anyone has any information or knows of his whereabouts, they are asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 479-783-1051. Callers do not have to give their names.
