Last week our care coordinator, Jordan was a guest speaker at two Veteran Appreciation dinners, one on Tuesday evening and the other on Thursday evening. Thursday evening she had the honor of speaking in front of more than 200 people โ€” veterans and their families.

She was proud to share the work she does as the Veteran Care Coordinator with Southern Iowa Mental Health, and to remind everyone that our team is here for them 24/7. She spoke about how we offer care coordination, therapy, medication management, substance use services, a full pharmacy, and a crisis unit for anyone needing immediate support.

She spoke about how her passion for this work began years ago, when she watched her dad and other veterans struggle to get the care they deserve. That experience showed her just how much veterans give โ€” and how challenging it can be to access the benefits theyโ€™ve already earned. Itโ€™s what inspired her to serve this community in the way she does today.

Standing in a room full of veterans and their loved ones reminded her once again why this work matters so deeply. Veterans are resilient, honest, and carry a sense of humor that always keeps her on her toes โ€” but more importantly, they look out for each other in a way that is truly unmatched.

She is grateful for the chance to support this community, to listen, and to help make sure no one has to navigate their mental health journey alone.

She met with people from Wounded Warrior Project, Home Base Iowa, the benefits and cemetery bureau chief, veteran companions, the Roger project(veteran su***de prevention team), and many others.
