A reminder that our work is far from done.... Hope to see you this Saturday!

It’s time again to say “no more.” On Saturday, March 28, the nationwide No Kings movement will rally for a third time, and once again, Van Buren County will participate. Join us from noon to 1:30 on the Des Moines River bridge in Keosauqua. Please register here https://www.mobilize.us/nokings/.

Anyone paying attention (and it’s tempting to avoid the news) over the last few months knows: We have a president and administration running wild, with no Congress or prosecutor willing to restrain them.

Donald Trump and his minions have sent masked troops into cities, violating civil and human rights to detain anyone with brown or black skin, and killing at least three people.
They illegally targeted Caribbean boats, acting as judge, jury and executioner to kill dozens of people without proving they threaten Americans.

They’ve acted alone to invade a South American country and remove a dictator – an extraordinary action against a weak country that, again, posed no significant danger.
And now we’re in an unnecessary and avoidable war, wreaking death and destruction as it spreads into a wider conflict.

Our first No Kings event in October drew 50 people from across the county, throughout Southeast Iowa, and even from outside Iowa. We can make it even bigger this spring.
Please bring your spirit and your catchy signs. Dress up. Have fun. Be joyful, not despairing. Harness your anger.
Register here: https://www.mobilize.us/nokings/ It’s not necessary, but it gives us an idea of how many people to expect.

We’ve timed this event to make it possible to join the Jefferson County No Kings rally in Fairfield at 2 p.m. More information and registration are here: https://www.mobilize.us/nokings/.

This. Saturday. Meet Zach Wahls.

Zach first gained national attention in 2011 when, as a 19-year-old college kid at the University of Iowa, he defended the freedom to marry for all Iowans, including families like his own with two moms, before the Iowa Legislature. That moment of courage showed Iowa who he was: someone willing to stand up for what’s right, especially when it’s hard.

Since then, he’s continued advocating for Iowa families as an advocate, an author, and a State Senator.
Join us this weekend at the Fairfield Community Center for a meet and greet with Zach and hear more about his campaign for the U.S. Senate.

Saturday, March 14th 2:00-3:00PM

The first legislative forum of the year is this coming Saturday, February 21! It starts early--7:30am-9:00am. New location: the Fairfield Public Library.

There are new rules this year!

"As this forum takes place early in the legislative session, the discussion will focus on emerging priorities, with taxes and education identified as the primary topics for each session.

"To help ensure a productive and respectful discussion, all audience questions will be submitted in writing. Questions must be topic-specific and relevant to the issues legislators are actively working on. Paper and writing utensils will be provided for attendees wishing to submit questions.

"Submitted questions will be reviewed and approved to be presented during the Q&A portion of the program.
In an effort to accommodate as many questions as possible, participants are respectfully asked to state their question concisely and reserve personal stories or extended commentary. Follow-up questions will not be permitted unless the participant returns to the end of the line and resubmits a new question. The Legislative Forum is intended to be an informational event and is not a debate.

"The Chamber reminds attendees that political discussions can be passionate and encourages all participants to remain courteous and respectful. In the event of disruptions, the forum will transition to questions submitted in advance and read solely by the moderator."

Miller-Meeks left her constituents in the dark when she didn't answer the questions selected by her staff. She lied and blamed.....guess who? Biden! It's still not clear what the Republicans plan is for healthcare although she had lots of criticism for the ACA today.

Hello fellow Democrats and friends,

It will be cold in Iowa tomorrow, but even chillier in Hades, where the devil will have to don a parka.

After saying just a few weeks ago that she would hold a town hall “when hell freezes over,” Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks will take questions at 2 .p.m. tomorrow (Monday, 11/10) at the Roberts Memorial Center on Iowa Highway 1 at the north edge of Keosauqua.

This is a rare opportunity to hold our representative accountable and we want a good showing. Please come, have questions ready, and bring your “MEDICAID SAVES LIVES” signs – or other signs calling out Miller-Meeks’s policies.

Arrive early, as this is certain to attract folks from all around the First District.
See you there.
