Heads up, Kentwood! We're surveying for Spongy Moth egg masses in our area this week through the weekend. 🐛

This is important work to ensure we reduce the spread of the invasive Spongy Moth. Each year we work with experts to spray and survey for these invasive moths.

Their environmental impact can be devastating to our beloved greenery in our city. The caterpillars feed heavily on the leaves of hundreds of tree and shrub species (favoring oaks) which can strip trees bare, weaken them, and make them vulnerable to fatal diseases

Learn more about these moths, how they got here, and why it's important to limit their spread:

Stop the drain pain: Clear catch basins near your home of debris regularly, especially before it rains, to help decrease the amount of trash and yard waste that enter local waterways. Yard waste can carry fertilizers that can hurt sensitive ecosystems, according to the Lower Grand River Organization of Watersheds - LGROW.
