The Hardin County Chamber & Business Alliance, Hardin County Regional Planning Commission, Lima/Allen County Regional Planning Commission, and WORPO are collaborating on an updated Comprehensive Land Use Plan—funded by the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

From farmland preservation and rural protection to roads, small business growth, and local infrastructure, your feedback is critical to setting our county's priorities.

The OSU Extension office in Hardin County will be closed September 7-13 for the observation of Labor Day and the 2026 Hardin County Fair.

Our staff will be all around the fairgrounds from the Community Building to the show arenas.

Come see us and have a fun and safe Hardin County Fair!

We will be back in the office on Monday, September 14 for regular business hours.

Ohio is the Heart of Agriculture. In 2026, we’re highlighting our counties’ commitment to farming.

Hardin County is in the top 10 percent nationally when it comes to agricultural output. Sales top $400 million. Throwback to Farm Science Review, where Hardin County growers Jerry and Jayna McBride received a Conservation Farm Family Award.

On Tuesday, September 8 at the Hardin County Fair, Hardin SWCD will host a conservation contest in the Community Building.

Sign-in will begin at 10 a.m. and judging will start at 10:30 a.m. There will be special consideration for livestock exhibitors. Please see the flyer below for further information and contest guidelines. Contact Denna Clem at 419-673-0456 to register or with any questions.

Pre-sale tickets for Farm Science Review are on sale now at the office until Monday, September 21. Tickets are $10 each with cash or check only.

Starting September 22, tickets can be purchased online or at the event gates for $15.

Join the Ohio State Extension-Hardin County Master Gardener Volunteer Program tonight at the Friendship Gardens for their final summer program. We hope to see you there!

Ohio State Extension-Hardin County Master Gardener Volunteer Program will host the final workshop of their summer program series next Tuesday, August 18 at 6:00 p.m.

Come to the Friendship Gardens, located at 960 W. Kohler St. in Kenton, for a discussion on companion planting in your garden lead by one of our very own Master Gardener Volunteers.

"Companion planting is a great way to use space efficiently in the garden, plant your vegetables and flowers in mutually beneficial arrangements, and even protect your most prized plants from insects." (University of Minnesota Extenstion)

The summer program series is a 3-part series that takes place each June, July and, and August. Stay tuned for the 2027 series announcement in the spring.
