HARDIN COUNTY, OH — April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Hardin County Job and Family
The 2026 campaign theme, “It Takes a Community,” highlights the vital role every individual play in protecting children. Friends, families, colleagues, neighbors, and community partners can all make a difference by recognizing the signs of abuse or neglect, speaking up when concerns arise, and supporting local child protection efforts.
Officials emphasize that the goal is to encourage community members to become “Mandated Supporters,” not just mandated reporters. By learning the warning signs, using their voices to advocate for children, and considering ways to help—such as becoming foster or adoptive parents—residents can make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable youth.
On average, Hardin County Children Services receives nearly 717 reports of suspected child abuse or neglect each year. Currently, six children in Hardin County are waiting for adoptive families.
“Keeping children safe requires the support and involvement of the entire community,” officials said. “By coming together, learning the signs, and taking action, we can help ensure every child grows up in a safe and supportive environment.”
