We would like to thank the North Newton High School and Spartan football for allowing us on their field Friday, September 11th, to honor those lives lost during the 9/11 attacks 25 years ago as well as paying tribute to our own, Cpl. Schreiber, that was killed in the line of duty two years ago.

AS we mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office is proud to partner with North Newton High School for a special event focused on remembrance, reflection and unity.

At the North Newton football game tonight (Friday, September 11, 2026) we will join together to honor the lives lost on that tragic day, recognize the courage and sacrifice of the first responders and everyday citizens, and reflect on the spirit of unity that brought our country together in the days that followed.

Following the game’s coin toss, there will be a moment of silence and the presentation of colors by Newton County Reserve Deputy Kaitie Schreiber.

As part of the event, North Newton High School has reserved seating for community members to come together to get to know each other with a simple message: we do not have to agree on everything but we can all treat one another with dignity and respect.

Twenty-five years later, we remember those we lost while challenging ourselves to carry forward the unity, compassion, and humanity that emerged in the face of tragedy.

We hope this event serves as a reminder that even when differences exist, there is always room to come together as neighbors and as a community.

We haven’t had any reports of this in Newton County…..yet. Sharing from our friends in Benton County. Thanks Sheriff Cox!

NEW TikTok FRAUD/SCAM - BE CAREFUL and PLEASE SHARE!!

I have had 4 residents come forward sharing that their house, which is currently up for sale, is being put on TikTok as a rental property. This house in Benton County is one example. The thief's are going to relator's websites, downloading the pictures/videos of the home, then putting them out to the world as "for rent" on their TikTok site.

I called the number to inquire of the owner and when I asked to meet them at the address so I could see the house, they declined saying they were out of State. When I told them I wanted to see it, they said they couldn't get there and then pressured me stating that I better act now as they have several people calling about it. They offered to hold the property for me if I sent them 2 months rent with one month acting as a deposit. All I needed to do was send them my bank account information and they would have the key to the property to me within 24 hours.

Of course when I said I was the Sheriff of Benton County and had additional questions, the phone call ended!

Do NOT fall for this Scam. Always check with a relator or contact the home owner and ask to see the house.

Over the last few hours, I’ve read several comments from Newton County residents expressing their thanks to the power companies and linemen who have worked hard to restore power following the storm.

That simple gesture of respect and appreciation for a job most of us couldn’t do ourselves… well, that’s just one of the many reasons I love working in Newton County. We truly have some great people who recognize the hard work of others and take the time to say, “Thank you.”

We made it through that last storm, and it looks like we could face another round yet today. Let’s continue to look out for one another and stay safe.

And while we’re at it, let’s keep our friends throughout Central Indiana in our thoughts. Many communities have experienced some serious flooding, and they are facing challenges that are far from over.

Thank you, Newton County, for continuing to show what neighbors helping neighbors looks like.
