The Kent Police Department proudly serves the city of Kent, an Ohio city which has a year-round population of 28,904 in its 9.3 square miles. The Dispatch Center dispatches police, fire and EMS calls for the Kent Fire Department, which covers the City of Kent, Kent State University and Franklin Township. The Kent Police Department has 43 sworn police officers, 13 dispatchers and 10 support personnel.

On this evening, 25 years ago, 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00am on Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment, life would never be the same.

As you live and enjoy the breaths you take tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.

And please say a special prayer for those protecting your freedom, home and abroad, and those first responders selflessly serving the public every day.

Please help us find this dogs owner(s). Recently, this male French bulldog checked into our Bark & Biscuit Inn. He was a transfer guest from the University Inn on S. Water Street where he was a guest for the week in hopes his owner(s) would claim him. He is currently wearing a brown & blue collar with no tags. He does have a microchip and we are awaiting its results if any. We have temporarily named him Pierre-Louis. If you know this dog or his owner(s), please contact KPD at 330-673-7732.

According to the Ohio Traffic Safety Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol issued 933 citations for "Stopped School Bus" violations in 2024 and 879 citations in 2025

Tips for Motorists:

🚨 Be alert and slow down when driving in neighborhoods with school zones.
🚨 Watch for children walking, playing or assembling near bus stops. Children arriving late for the bus may dart into the street without looking for traffic.
🚨 Obey the school bus laws in your State, as well as the flashing light signal systems used on school buses.
🟨 Flashing yellow lights indicate the bus is preparing to stop to load or unload children. Motorists should slow down and prepare to stop their vehicles.
🟥 Flashing red lights and extended stop arms indicate the bus has stopped and children are getting on or off. Motorists must stop their cars and wait until the red lights stop flashing, the extended stop arm is withdrawn, and the bus begins moving before they can start driving again.

We’re excited to introduce the newest member of the Kent Police Department, K9 Vex, a 18-month-old German Shepherd who joined us on May 14th.

Vex came to us from Poland and is proudly partnered with Officer Smith. He received his training right here in-house at KPD as well as through Von der Haus Gill Kennels. Officer Smith and Vex became certified on August 6th.

Vex is dual-purpose certified through Ohio and NAPCH in:

• Narcotics Detection

• Tracking

• Patrol functions
