A huge thank you to Anna and Miss Karen for visiting Freedom House and Miller Community House on June 17, 2026, with the ice cream truck! Because of their generosity, every resident was able to enjoy a free ice cream treat.

The smiles on our residents' faces were absolutely priceless, and the joy this simple act of kindness brought to our day will not be forgotten. We are so grateful for your thoughtfulness, support, and commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve.

Thank you, Anna and Miss Karen, for spreading happiness one ice cream at a time!

A Heartfelt Thank You to Gloria Dei Church

We had a truly meaningful and uplifting day. Program Manager Cassie Guthrie, had the opportunity to speak at Gloria Dei Church and share the mission and work we do at Freedom House and Miller Community House. It was a wonderful experience to meet with the congregation, attend church service together, and connect with so many caring individuals who are passionate about supporting our community.

The congregation graciously provided and prepared a delicious lunch, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone involved. In addition, they collected an abundance of cleaning supplies and donations that will greatly benefit the residents we serve.

One of the most touching gestures was the homemade cookies and the handwritten cards they created for our veterans. The thoughtful messages thanking them for their service will mean so much to the men at Freedom House and serve as a reminder that their sacrifices are appreciated and remembered.

We cannot thank Gloria Dei Church enough for their generosity, kindness, and support. A special thank you to Beth and everyone who helped organize, donate, prepare food, write cards, and make this day possible. Your compassion and dedication have made a lasting impact on the veterans and families we serve.

From all of us at Freedom House and Miller Community House, thank you for your continued support and for helping us make a difference in the lives of those in our programs. We are truly grateful.

🌟SPOTLIGHT MOMENT🌟

Cassie Guthrie, Program Manager and her team shares their gratitude for the community's support and dedication coming out to beautify Freedom House Kent and Miller Community House.

"This past Saturday, May 16th, Freedom House and Miller Community House came together for an amazing Community Clean Up Day! We want to give a huge thank you to the Lions Club for all of their hard work, especially the power washing and helping make our shelters shine. Thank you to our entire maintenance team for the heavy lifting, hauling mulch, and tackling the big projects that helped make such a difference. We were thankful to have our Executive Director and CEO of Axess Family Services Mark Frisone join us for our community clean Up Day! Your support , leadership, and willingness to work alongside staff, residents and volunteers truly means so much to our shelter and community.

We are also incredibly grateful to the volunteers, residents, and staff who gave up part of their Saturday to come together and help clean, organize, and beautify our shelters. Your teamwork, kindness, and dedication truly show what the community is all about.

🌟 COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP DAY! 🌟

We’re rolling up our sleeves to give the neighborhood a fresh start, and we need YOU to help make it happen! Whether you have an hour or the whole morning, every hand makes a difference.

TIME: 8:30 AM – Until Finished
MEETING LOCATION: 1211/1213 Anita Drive, Kent, OH
(Miller Community House & Freedom House)

🧹 **WHAT WE’RE DOING**

We have two main goals to get the property looking its best:

1. Dumpster Run: Helping move items and debris to the designated dumpsters located on each side of the building.
2. General Clean-Up: Garbage collection and tidying of the exterior property—stretching from **Anita Dr** to the back of the house lines.

🎒 WHAT TO BRING

* Comfortable work clothes & sturdy shoes
* Work gloves (if you have them!)
* A "can-do" attitude

She is always willing to step in and cover shifts as needed, showing reliability and strong commitment to both staff and residents. Emma goes above and beyond her job responsibilities by assisting with tasks such as updating job postings, supporting residents with employment applications, and helping develop essential life skills like cooking. With her approachable nature, positive attitude, and uplifting sense of humor, Emma creates a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone she encounters."
