Happy 1st week of school, Sunnycrest!
In just a couple days, our doors will open at 8:45 am to let kids in for the 1st day of school! We are so excited and we cannot wait to see your children! As our staff finished up their back to school professional learning and are putting the final touches on classrooms to get ready for Wednesday, we wanted to share some tips and reminders.
1st Day Expectations:
We understand that families and kids can both have a hard time saying goodbye on day 1, but we do have to ask you to say farewell at the gate. Due to the number of kids coming in and staff present in hallways to get kids to the right place, we have to monitor for capacity. You’re welcome to take photos outside of school, but once they pass the gate, they’ll be supported by Roadrunner Ambassadors and staff ready to help out. Students in grades K/1 will enter through the Yellow Doors (the ones you came in for Open House behind the office. They will proceed to the cafeteria to line up. Here is the order. They’ll find the cone with their teacher’s name, and we’ll have staff there to help guide them.
Grades 2-5 will walk down the ramp and line up inside the gym. Starting next week, we will have morning run club, which means older students who need to get their energy out will run with Mrs. Schottle, Ms. R-D, or Mr. Skyler. It’s a great way to get the oxygen and blood flowing in their brain and help them wake up and be ready for learning! Students opting for some low impact exercise can follow along on yoga or other videos. All students are expected to line up in their class line at the first bell, 9:05 am. Students are then dismissed to class, walked by support staff members to their classrooms beginning at 9:07 am. Our late bell rings at 9:10 am, so remember to get inside the building before them!
Dismissal Expectations:
Please remember that if your child is a bus rider, the bus may arrive a little later on the first few days to make sure that all students are correctly loaded with the right bus tag for the right route before they depart. It’s worth us taking an extra 5 minutes to avoid a student going home on the wrong bus!
We’ll be running our final bus report tomorrow to make changes and revisions. We learned at Open House that after some updates, there were a few siblings who were mismatched. Your child’s teachers will correct their bus tags on the 1st day if they’re not right, and if your family was not able to make it to Back to School Night, your child will receive their bus or car rider/walker/daycare tag on Wednesday, zip tied to their backpack!
Families who walk, please stay in the crosswalk and sidewalks. Families who drive, please stay in the car to keep traffic flowing. Do NOT turn left into the car pick up loop, and instead please circle around the block. You’ll receive a yellow placecard to put on the front of your dash so we can read off student names to call them to the car. Students will walk to the car from under the solar panels, so please DO NOT call kids to run into the street to bypass the car pick up line. As there are 7 long buses this year, please refrain from entering the staff parking lot and bus loop for car pick up.
For Kindergarten first 6 days that get dismissed at 12 pm, please follow the same process. Our Kinder teachers as well as other support staff will be all hands on deck in order to make sure it is a smooth process the first days until they learn the steps!

Lastly, as this week’s temperatures can vary, if your child is bringing a coat, please write their name inside of the coat so it is easy to find. Similarly, please put their names on water bottles, lunch boxes/bags, and any other accessories! Remember, school supplies for students have been distributed to classrooms for teachers to pass out, so don't worry about them bringing items to school unless they want to own personal ones.

¡Feliz primera semana de clase, Sunnycrest!
En un par de días, abriremos nuestras puertas a las 8:45 de la mañana para dejar entrar a los niños para el primer día de clase. ¡Estamos muy emocionados y no podemos esperar a ver a vuestros hijos! Mientras nuestro personal terminaba su formación profesional de vuelta al cole y ponía los últimos retoques a las aulas para prepararse para el miércoles, queríamos compartir algunos consejos y recordatorios.
Expectativas del primer día:
Entendemos que tanto las familias como los niños pueden tener dificultades para despedirse el primer día, pero sí tenemos que pedirles que se despidan en la puerta. Debido a la cantidad de niños que entran y al personal presente en los pasillos para llevarlos al lugar adecuado, tenemos que controlar la capacidad. Pueden hacer fotos fuera del colegio, pero una vez que pasen la puerta, contarán con el apoyo de los Embajadores Roadrunner y el personal dispuestos a ayudar. Los alumnos de K/1º entrarán por las puertas amarillas (las que entraste para la jornada de puertas abiertas detrás de la oficina). Se dirigirán a la cafetería para hacer cola. Aquí está la orden. Encontrarán el cono con el nombre de su profesor, y habrá personal allí para ayudarles a guiarles.
Los cursos 2º a 5 bajarán por la rampa y se formarán dentro del gimnasio. A partir de la próxima semana, tendremos club de carrera matutina, lo que significa que los estudiantes mayores que necesiten gastar energía correrán con la señora Schottle, la señorita R-D o el señor Skyler. Es una forma estupenda de hacer circular el oxígeno y la sangre en su cerebro y ayudarles a despertarse y estar preparados para aprender. Los estudiantes que opten por ejercicio de bajo impacto pueden seguirlos con yoga u otros vídeos. Se espera que todos los estudiantes se formen en su cola de clase al primer timbre, a las 9:05 de la mañana. Luego, los estudiantes son despedidos a clase, acompañados por miembros del personal de apoyo a sus aulas a partir de las 9:07 de la mañana. Nuestra campana tardía suena a las 9:10 de la mañana, así que recordad entrar en el edificio antes que ellos.
Expectativas de expulsión:
Recuerda que si tu hijo es pasajero del autobús, este puede llegar un poco más tarde los primeros días para asegurarse de que todos los estudiantes lleven correctamente la etiqueta de autobús adecuada para la ruta correcta antes de salir. ¡Merece la pena que nos tomemos 5 minutos más para evitar que un estudiante se vaya a casa en el autobús equivocado!
Mañana publicaremos nuestro informe final del autobús para hacer cambios y revisiones. En la jornada de puertas abiertas supimos que, tras algunas actualizaciones, había algunos hermanos que no coincidían. Los profesores de tu hijo corregirán sus etiquetas de autobús el primer día si no están bien, y si tu familia no pudo asistir a la Noche de Vuelta al Cole, tu hijo recibirá su etiqueta de pasajero de autobús o coche, andante, guardería el miércoles, ¡atada con brida a su mochila!
Las familias que caminen, por favor, permanezcan en el paso de peatones y en las aceras. Las familias que conduzcan, por favor, permanezcan en el coche para que el tráfico siga fluyendo. NO giren a la izquierda en el circuito de recogida de coches, sino que den la vuelta a la manzana. Recibirán una tarjeta amarilla para colocar en la parte frontal del salpicadero y podremos leer los nombres de los estudiantes para llamarles al coche. Los estudiantes caminarán hasta el coche desde debajo de los paneles solares, así que por favor NO llaméis a los niños para que salgan corriendo a la calle y salten la cola de recogida. Como este año hay 7 autobuses largos, por favor absteneos de entrar en el aparcamiento del personal y en el bucle para recoger el coche.
Para los primeros 6 días de Infantil que se despidan a las 12 de la noche, por favor sigue el mismo proceso. Nuestras profesoras de Infantil y el resto del personal de apoyo estarán todos implicados para asegurarse de que el proceso sea fluido los primeros días hasta que aprendan los pasos.
RECORDATORIO FINAL: ANTES DE QUE EMPIECE EL COLEGIO (antes del 2 de septiembre)

Por último, como las temperaturas de esta semana pueden variar, si tu hijo lleva un abrigo, por favor escribe su nombre dentro del abrigo para que sea fácil de encontrar. De igual manera, por favor, pon su nombre en botellas de agua, fiambreras o bolsas y cualquier otro accesorio. Recuerda, los materiales escolares de los alumnos se han distribuido en las aulas para que los profesores los repartan, así que no te preocupes por que traigan objetos al colegio a menos que quieran tener uno personal.
