STOLEN BIKE & STOLEN DOG REUNITED

Last week Sgt. Lorette took a theft call at a downtown business. They called 911 because an elderly customer had parked his 3 wheeler outside, and a thief was seen peddling it away. The crime was witnessed and photos were available from neighboring businesses, all of whom were all happy to help us find the suspect.

Stealing someone's bike is bad enough, but the victim's furry best friend, named Old Mann, was inside the carrier attached to the back when the bike was taken. Sgt. Lorette immediately sent out pictures to patrol to be on the lookout for the suspect, bike and pup. He drove the victim home and shortly after arriving there received a tip from a business patron about the 3 wheeler's location, near the RJC.

He arrived in the area and spotted the bike in the bushes, but more importantly, found Big Mann alive and well in his carrier. The bike was way to big to fit in the patrol car, so Sgt. Lorette, (having some former bike and K9 experience), hopped on board and delivered the bike and pup back to the owner.

The suspect? Well he committed another crime 2 days later, was caught by a Kent Officer, and was positively identified as the bike thief. He was charged for both crimes.

We could not be happier that Old Mann is back where he belongs. A big thank you to the witnesses that rallied to help this dog dad, provided photos and looked for the 3 wheeler. We love how Kent has each others back.

And kudos to Sgt. Lorette for getting bike and Big Mann home to his dad. You can take the sergeant out of K9, but can't take the K9 out of the Sergeant.

I AM NOT A ROBOT-NEW CAPTCHA SCAM-READ

As tech gets more and more sophisticated, so do the scams. There is a new-ish scam on the internet involving captcha and we want to make sure you're aware.

We have ALL been asked to verify that we are not robots. Below is an example of a real request asking you to 'find the traffic lights'. Other legit requests will ask you to 'copy the characters you see'. Those are fine. They are normal.

What's not normal is the one pictured below titled "fake captcha scam". In this case the screen asks for additional verification, and then gives you a series of keyboard strokes to complete. When you follow the scammers key board request, your actions download a malware onto your computer/phone, and the scammers steal your account numbers and saved passwords. Then they take all of your money.

There are resources below that explain this scam in detail, and what actions to immediately take if you fear you're a victim. The articles are short and contain lots of info. Please take the time to read them. In short they both say this:

"Real CAPTCHAs only ask you to tick a box or solve a quick puzzle. You shouldn’t be asked to download files or paste commands."

Please share with your friends and family.

KENT POLICE INVESTIGATING FATAL COLLISION INVOLVING A MOTORCYCLE

On May 28th, 2026, around 5:08 PM, Kent Police and Puget Sound Fire personnel were dispatched to reports of a collision involving a car and a motorcycle in the 23600 block of 104th Ave SE. Upon arrival Kent Police Officers discovered that the motorcyclist had significant injuries and immediately began lifesaving efforts, which were taken over by Puget Sound Fire and Medics upon their arrival. Tragically the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Witnesses reported that the motorcyclist was driving recklessly, traveling northbound on 104th Ave at high speeds and “popping wheelies.” The other motorist was traveling southbound on 104th Ave and turning left onto 236th Pl when the motorcyclist struck the automobile. That driver remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation.

The deceased motorcyclist is tentatively identified as a 57-year-old Renton man. A check on the motorcycle revealed that motorcycle was confirmed to have been stolen.

The Kent Police Traffic Unit responded and took over the investigation.

54 YEAR OLD MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING DUI CRASH

This week on Wednesday evening at 10:48 p.m. multiple Kent Patrol Officers were dispatched to a rollover vehicle crash in the 2200 block of W. Meeker St. The 911 caller was unsure if the vehicle was occupied, but upon arrival officers discovered two men in the car. They were conscious and alert, but unable to exit the Toyota Rav on their own. Puget Sound Fire responded and extricated both occupants.

They got into this predicament when the driver failed to maintain their lane of travel, veered off the roadway to the right, and collided with a metal pillar/structure on the southern sidewalk. The car slid onto its driver’s side and came to rest in the central lane.

The driver, a 54-year-old Burien man, was exhibiting multiple signs of intoxication. He admitted to drinking “buzzballs” priors to the crash. After Officer Jang developed probable cause, the driver was arrested for DUI.

Further investigation revealed that the driver/suspect had a suspended license in the 1st degree and an ignition interlock restriction/financial responsibility restriction on his license. The suspect vehicle did not have an ignition interlock installed. Based on all the facts, he was charged with DUI, Reckless Endangerment, (due to the presence of a passenger in the car while DUI), Driving While License Suspected 1st Degree, and Operating a Motor Vehicle without Ignition Interlock.

The driver declined to participate in the breath test as required by law. Officer Jang wrote a warrant for a blood-draw that was later approved by a judge. The driver was transported to a local hospital for the blood-draw and was also medically cleared for booking in our Kent jail.

Despite the appearance of the vehicle, both occupants were able to walk away. It's fortunate there were airbags in the car.

The charges for this arrest point to a history of similar behavior, and we are thankful this crash was not more tragic. If you find yourself making the same bad decisions around alcohol or other intoxicants, look below for resources that can help. It is strongly possible the life you save will be your own.

SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER PUNCHING STRANGER IN PARK

Last Saturday, a 64-year-old father and his adult son were enjoying the day at Lake Meridian Park. They were minding their own business, sitting, chatting, and having a snack, when an adult stranger suddenly punched the father in the face, causing an obvious injury to his forehead. Officers Dale and Bare arrived quickly, contacted the victim, and learned that the suspect had just left the parking lot. He was last seen headed westbound on Kent Kangley Rd. in a white Jeep. They radioed this information to incoming Officer Blowers who spotted the Jeep and pulled it over a few blocks from the park.

The victim and witnesses confirmed that there had been no altercation, and the man just walked up and punched him. The victim accompanied Officer Dale to the stop location and identified Jeep’s passenger as the suspect. The 27-year-old male suspect from Tacoma was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Kent jail for Assault 4th degree.

The victim had his injury treated at the scene by Puget Sound Fire personnel.

Officer Blowers talked to the suspect after taking him into custody. He learned that the suspect thought he was being ‘mean mugged’ and admitted he was ‘grumpy’ after being woken up from a nap. A witness stated he had been drinking prior to falling asleep.

If you wake up crabby after a nap and want to hurt people, please nap away from others. If you find yourself falling asleep in public due to your alcohol intake, consider seeking help.
