The Noyes Library for Young Children in Kensington will temporarily close at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, for a comprehensive renovation. The facility is expected to remain closed for approximately 14 to 16 months, with reopening anticipated in fall 2027. Ahead of the closure, a community groundbreaking will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, at the site.

The Noyes Library is a small, historically designated library dedicated to pre-kindergarten & early literacy education. Its intimate scale creates a signature experience for young children, but the building is not fully accessible & lacks dedicated staff & programming spaces.

The project will deliver a comprehensive rehabilitation and enhancement of the historic facility while preserving its unique, small-scale character. Planned improvements will:

* Ensure the facility is fully accessible for all patrons & staff.
* Provide new ADA-compliant restrooms for public & staff use.
* Create dedicated space for library staff to prepare & deliver programming.

During the closure, you can return library items to the Kensington Park Library, less than a mile away at 4201 Knowles Ave., or to any of our other locations. Children’s collections & events are also available at the Kensington Park Library — please check our events calendar at https://mcpl.link/events for dates & times.

Winner of 2025 Creative Child Book of the Year Award and Literary Titan Gold AwardFinalist for 2026 Little Peeps Award (Chanticleer International Book Awards) Wally is back, and this time he's tackling life's challenges with even more creativity and curiosity. From chores at home to camping in the great outdoors, Wally turns to the magical Tailor for tails to solve his problems. But with each new tail comes an unexpected lesson-and a reminder from his clever snake friend, Snoo, that some things are better done the human way. Full of heart and humor, Tail Tale Too is a delightful sequel about embracing mistakes, helping others, and learning that true strength comes from being yourself. (Recommended ages 3-9)
