Congratulations to our friends at Kenosha Police Department on this significant achievement!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Kenosha, WI β The Kenosha Police Department is proud to announce that it has become the second largest law enforcement agency in Wisconsin to receive accreditation through the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG).
The voluntary accreditation process required more than two years of preparation and comprehensive review. Over a three-day on-site assessment in February, WILEAG assessors conducted an in-depth evaluation of the Departmentβs policies, procedures, and operations. Assessors were granted full access to Department facilities, personnel, and documentation to measure compliance with rigorous professional standards and best practices. Achieving accreditation reflects the Kenosha Police Departmentβs ongoing commitment to professionalism, accountability, and exemplary service to the community.
Chief Patton stated, βBecoming accredited by WILEAG for the first time marks a significant milestone in the history of our department. This accreditation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to continuous improvement and transparency. I commend our officers and staff for their relentless commitment to raising the bar and ensuring our community receives the highest level of service. This achievement is not just a badge of honor, it is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and professionalism exhibited by every member of our department.β
Only approximately 10% of the nearly 600 law enforcement agencies in the State of Wisconsin have achieved accreditation through WILEAG. During the assessment process, three WILEAG assessors verified compliance with 262 standards that incorporate nationally recognized best practices in law enforcement policy and operations.
The assessors were provided full access to all Department offices and facilities, reviewed policies and procedures, interviewed personnel across all ranks and divisions, conducted ride-alongs with officers, and solicited input from citizens and community leaders. The assessment team was composed of experienced law enforcement professionals from accredited agencies across Wisconsin.
Chief Patton added, βThis was a huge project that included the coordination of all divisions to accomplish. Additionally, our partners in Joint Services stepped up and willingly participated to ensure they were maintaining the same standards required by WILEAG. The assessment panel was incredibly complimentary of Joint Services. Not only are we one of the largest agencies in the State to pursue this honor, but we also are one of the very few that do so in a consolidated services model. This illustrated the challenges that consolidated services can present, but also showed the efficiency of the model when collaboration is an emphasis like it is in our relationship with Joint Services.β
The modern accreditation movement began in 1979 with the establishment of the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Accreditation has since become a proven and progressive method for law enforcement agencies to evaluate performance, strengthen accountability, and enhance public trust.
The Kenosha Police Department remains focused on setting the standard for excellence through continuous improvement and adherence to best practices. WILEAG accreditation is a significant milestone and underscores the dedication of the Departmentβs 222 sworn officers and professional staff to put people first.
