My Friends Place

My Friends Place My Friends Place, a Program of Safe Harbor Support Center My Friends Place is Southeastern Washington's first safe overnight sanctuary for homeless teens.

My Friends Place had its ribbon cutting ceremony on November 30, 2011 and provides immediate basic human survival needs for youth on the streets. Warm meals, showers, laundry, and a safe place to rest, for youth ages 13 through 17. Dedicated staff and volunteer mentors will assist them in accessing long term solutions including family reconciliation services, transitional living arrangements, educ

ational programs, job training, and help with mental health or chemical dependency. On November 30, 2011 My Friends Place opened to provide dinners, showers, homework help, laundry facilities, clothes, school supplies, access to community services and fun to any homeless youth up to age 21. We have now open up as an overnight shelter for youth ages 13 to 17 years old. We have dinner and breakfast for the youth as well as the services listed above when we were just doing the drop in. Most of the youth who have come to My Friends Place have had family problems and some kind of life trauma. Our staff are welcoming and provide support to re-unite families when possible. When reunification is not in the best interest of the youth, efforts are made to connect them to resources to become independent.

* Hot, nutritious meal and snack
* Laundry services
* Welcoming and helpful staff and volunteer mentors
* Hygiene travel kits, warm clothing and other survival essentials
* Showers
* School supplies and homework assistance
* Access to community resources, family reconciliation assistance, etc.
* Movies, games and good company!

At Safe Harbor Support Center, we are privileged to have leaders who bring not only experience and expertise, but also deep compassion for the youth and families we serve. Today, we’re honored to recognize Diane Cato, a dedicated board member whose contributions over the past seven years have helped shape and strengthen our organization.

Diane has been on the board for 7 years and previously served as Board Secretary and President. Her commitment to our mission continues to make a lasting impact. Her leadership, advocacy, and heart for those most at-risk are felt throughout Safe Harbor and especially at My Friends Place, where her support helps ensure no teen faces homelessness alone.

Diane Cato is the Vice President for Mission Assurance for Hanford Mission Integration Solutions (HMIS). She has 35+ years of experience at a variety of Department of Energy sites with roles in Operations, Engineering, Projects, Startup & Readiness and Independent Assessment. In her current role as HMIS Vice President of Mission Assurance, she is responsible for the leadership and oversight of Environmental, Safety & Health, Radiological Services/Protection, Quality Assurance, Continuous Improvement and Requirements Managements organizations.

Diane has been in the Tri-cities since 2008. She and her husband, Bryan, have a wonderful, blended family, with their sons Jonathan and Sebastien living locally.

Diane was introduced to Safe Harbor by a friend and colleague that was on the board.

"I attended a couple of fundraisers, and I was moved and impressed with the great work done by the organization. I had no idea that teen homelessness was such a problem for this area. I am a sucker for anything to with kids, so it was a no-brainer when I was asked to be on the board. I am honored to be able to further the mission of this organization as it provides greatly needed services to our community."

Please join us in celebrating Diane’s incredible service to Safe Harbor and her ongoing commitment to creating a stronger, more compassionate community. 💙
