We get asked this a lot. Glad they posted this….
We want to take a quick moment to clear up a very common (and totally understandable!) mix-up in our community. 💙
We are often confused with the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter, mainly because of our close location and our shared love for animals. While we work side-by-side for the same goal—animal welfare—we serve the community in different ways.
Here’s how we’re different:
🐾 Benton-Franklin Humane Society
• A nonprofit organization
• 100% donation-funded — we receive no government funding
• Primarily an owner-surrender facility
• Adoption fees reflect our reliance on donations and community support
🐾 Tri-Cities Animal Shelter (TCAS)
• A municipal, government-funded shelter
• Serves as the community’s animal control facility
• Handles stray animals, cruelty investigations, and animal control calls
• Adoption fees differ due to their funding structure
What does this mean for you?
• Found a stray or need animal control assistance? ➡️ TCAS is the place to go
• Need to surrender a pet you own or are caring for? ➡️ That’s where we can help
Both organizations are essential, both care deeply about animals, and both exist to support our community—just in different but equally important ways.
Thank you for being part of a compassionate, informed Tri-Cities community. 🐶🐱
