Each year the Kennewick Police Department hosts the annual crossing guard picnic at the Southridge Sports Complex. Today was the Big Day!!

The picnic honors the hard work of our 4th and 5th grade KSD students who serve as crossing guards at our elementary schools throughout the school year.

The students were able to ride on the Gesa Carousel of Dreams and interact with Officers while exploring Police, Swat and Kennewick Fire Department vehicles. There was also an inflatable obstacle course and interactive games from KnockerBall Tricities LLC. Lunch was provided by Sodexo with the help of our CHIPS volunteers.

KPD would like to thank everyone who participated in making this event a success! Special shout out to all the students who dedicated their time as crossing guards contributing to the safety of their school!

We had an amazing time celebrating with these students and are already looking forward to next year’s event. We could not ask for a better partner than the Kennewick School District as we work to keep our schools safe.

Robbery Update – New Shoes!

A few days ago, we shared information about a robbery in which an 11-year-old child was robbed at gunpoint of his shoes. The two suspects were quickly identified and arrested, and one of the suspects was found wearing the stolen shoes. Unfortunately, the shoes had to be seized as evidence as part of the investigation.

Today, detectives used the Community Care Fund to purchase two new pairs of shoes for the victim. The Community Care Fund was established through the KPD Foundation to assist community members impacted by crime and other difficult circumstances.

The Kennewick Police Department would like to thank the KPD Foundation and Dick’s Sporting Goods, who immediately offered to help after learning why detectives were shopping for shoes.

The Kennewick Police Department remains committed to supporting victims of crime and hopes this moment serves as a reminder that small acts of empathy and compassion can have a lasting impact in our community.

If you want more information about the KPD Foundation or wish to donate, please visit their website at kpdfoundation.org.

Community BBQ

Last night, we had the opportunity to connect with members of our community in a positive and meaningful way. With support from the KPD Foundation, the Kennewick Police Department hosted a community BBQ at the B5 Learning Center in Kennewick. Many of the families in attendance are new to our area and represent countries from around the world. The event provided an opportunity to build relationships, share resources, and showcase the services the police department offers to our community.

B5 is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting immigrant and refugee families as they overcome language, literacy, and cultural barriers. The learning center provides language classes for adults, along with tutoring and enrichment activities for children.

This event was made possible through funding from the KPD Foundation, donated gifts, support from B5, the efforts of the KPD Special Services Division, and the dedication of our valued CHIPS volunteers and KPD Foundation board members. The photo shown captures just a portion of the families who attended for food, conversation, and connection.

We want to thank everyone who helped make this meaningful annual event possible!

NOTICE REGARDING DOOR-TO-DOOR SOLICITORS

Edit: Here is the definition of a solicitor from the Kennewick Municipal Code as it relates to the licensing requirement:

Solicitor includes any person traveling from place to place, taking or offering to take orders for the sale of any goods, merchandise, service or produce. A "solicitor" for the purpose of requiring a license under Section 6.23.040 shall not include those engaged in religious, charitable, or political activities, including direct or anonymous political speech and the distribution of noncommercial handbills.

We noticed many questions about religious groups and door to door solicitations for charities such as Girl Scouts. These do not require a solicitor's license. The solicitors that must comply with the license requirement are actual businesses that send employees door to door to sell a product for a profit. The intent of the city code is to ensure these employees visiting our residents have undergone a background check and are representing legitimate businesses. This is for the safety of the community.

Original Post:
We understand it can sometimes be concerning when someone knocks on your door selling a product or service. For that reason, the City of Kennewick requires all individuals conducting door-to-door sales or solicitation to obtain a Solicitor’s License.

This license process includes:
✔️ A background check
✔️ A $75 licensing fee per individual

Persons caught soliciting without a valid license may be arrested and booked into Benton County Jail for violation of Kennewick Municipal Code.

Residents are encouraged to ask solicitors if they have a valid Solicitor’s License while in your neighborhood.

If you encounter individuals soliciting without a license, please contact us at 📞 (509) 628-0333.

For additional information or to view the application process, please visit our city website or contact our front desk.
