The Heat Advisory has now ended for our area.

🌩️ We are still monitoring a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon into the early evening.

💨 Damaging winds are the primary threat.

🌡️ DANGEROUS HEAT & STORM THREAT

Dangerous heat is expected across much of the Mid-South this afternoon, with heat index values rising above 105°F in many areas. Please stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activities, and take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade.

⛈️ A marginal risk for severe thunderstorms is expected late Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening. The primary threat will be damaging straight-line winds.

🚨 THE HEAT ISN’T QUITTING JUST YET! 🥵

Oppressive heat and humidity will continue through the Labor Day weekend, with Heat Advisories in effect across portions of the Mid-South.

🌡️ Afternoon heat index values could reach 105–110°F.

Please take the heat seriously:
💧 Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water
🧊 Take frequent breaks if you’re working or spending time outdoors
👶 NEVER leave children or anyone else unattended in a hot vehicle
🐶 NEVER leave pets in a hot vehicle — temperatures can become deadly within minutes

A little relief is expected to arrive early next week, but until then, please stay safe and look out for your family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers.

Kennett Office of Emergency Management will continue monitoring conditions and provide updates as needed.

🔥 A look at our Assistant Director! 🔥

Today, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank Tyler Roberts, who serves as our Assistant Fire Chief and Deputy Director of Emergency Management.
Roberts has dedicated over 15 years of professional service to emergency management, emergency medical services, and the fire service, building a career centered on public safety, rapid response, and community resilience. As a Nationally Registered Paramedic holding a Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management and Fire Science, he brings a high level of expertise to every incident and training initiative.
Throughout his career, Roberts has maintained a strong commitment to operational readiness and responder development—from instructing Hazardous Material Operations courses, Firefighter 1&2, and leading vehicle extrication trainings to coordinating critical medical standby protocols for local athletic events. He has also played a key role in advancing department operations, including the integration of modern emergency medical equipment like the Zoll Propaq MD cardiac monitor and the implementation of streamlined mobile technology for department personnel.
In addition to his field leadership, Roberts actively engages with the community through public safety outreach, regional earthquake preparedness initiatives, and departmental events that connect first responders with the citizens they protect.
Outside of his professional duties, Roberts enjoys spending quality time with his wife Lillie, his three children, and his dachshund Lucy, as well as pursuing personal interests in music, classic humor, and creative projects.
Assistant Chief Roberts, we want you to know how much your leadership, technical expertise, and dedication mean to our department and community. Thank you for everything you have done — and continue to do — for the Office of Emergency Management, the Kennett Fire Department, the City of Kennett, and the citizens you proudly serve!

🔥 A look at our Director! 🔥

Today, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank Fire Chief Lance Davis, who serves not only as our Fire Chief but also as our Emergency Management Director.

Chief Davis was born and raised in Holcomb, Missouri, graduating in 1997. After graduation, he spent a short time in Louisiana, where he worked for an oil company and also served with the Sarepta Fire Department.

In 2000, Chief Davis began his career with the Kennett Police Department and shortly thereafter became a part-time member of the Kennett Fire Department. In 2005, he became a full-time firefighter, beginning a career dedicated to serving and protecting the citizens of Kennett and the surrounding community.

Throughout his career, Chief Davis has always had a passion for helping others and a particular interest in weather and severe weather preparedness. In 2019, after becoming Assistant Chief, Davis traveled to Jefferson City to obtain his Emergency Management Director certification.

Since then, Chief Davis has worked to build and implement a state-of-the-art weather center, bringing together a number of key community partners to monitor weather conditions, share information, and provide timely updates through social media when severe weather or other disasters threaten our community.

Chief Davis also holds all Incident Command System (ICS) certifications through FEMA, further strengthening his ability to coordinate emergency response and keep our community prepared when it matters most.

Outside of his professional duties, Davis married his wife, Sarah "Smith" Davis, in 2005. Together, they have a daughter, Ella Grace. When he's not serving the community, Chief Davis enjoys amateur (ham) radio, weather watching, and spending time with his family and close friends.

Chief Davis, we want you to know how much your dedication and service mean to our community. Thank you for everything you have done — and continue to do — for the Office of Emergency Management, the Kennett Fire Department, the City of Kennett, and the citizens you proudly serve.

🌩️ WEATHER UPDATE – STAY WEATHER AWARE 🌩️

Here’s a look at the current radar. At this time, there are no active watches or warnings for our area. However, we are closely monitoring the situation as we could see strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon.

The primary threats with any stronger storms could include damaging wind gusts, hail, heavy rainfall, and lightning.

We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as more information becomes available.

📱 Please make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts as we head into our second severe weather season. Don’t rely on just one source for critical weather information.

Stay weather aware and be prepared to take action if a warning is issued.

☀️ DANGEROUS HEAT & STORM POTENTIAL

Another day of dangerous heat is ahead of us. Heat index values are forecast to reach between 105°F and 115°F across most areas, and a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8:00 PM today.

🌩️ The Kennett Office of Emergency Management is also closely monitoring a storm system that could move into our area late this afternoon through the evening and overnight hours. Strong thunderstorms are possible, so please stay weather aware.

📱 Make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather watches and warnings. Do not rely on outdoor warning sirens, especially if you are indoors.

Please stay hydrated, limit time outdoors during the hottest part of the day, and check on family, friends, neighbors, and those who may be especially vulnerable to the heat.

Dangerous heat is staying put across our region, with Heat Advisories (105°F+) and Extreme Heat Warnings (110°F+) active through at least 8 PM Sunday.
