🚫🔥 NO BURNING TODAY 🔥🚫

⚠️ WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT TODAY ⚠️

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Dunklin County and surrounding areas from Noon until 7:00 PM today.

🌬️ Expected Conditions:
• Sustained southwest winds of 20–25 mph
• Wind gusts up to 40 mph

Due to these hazardous wind conditions, NO BURNING WILL BE ALLOWED TODAY. Strong winds can quickly cause fires to spread out of control, creating dangerous conditions for both property owners and emergency responders.

⚠️ Potential Impacts:
• Unsecured outdoor items may be blown around
• Tree limbs could be damaged or blown down
• High-profile vehicles may experience difficult driving conditions

✅ Safety Tips:
• Secure trash cans, patio furniture, tents, and other loose outdoor items
• Use caution when driving, especially in larger vehicles
• Stay alert for downed trees, limbs, and power lines
• Avoid any outdoor burning activities

The Kennett Fire Department encourages everyone to take a few moments this morning to secure outdoor belongings and prepare for the windy conditions.

🔥 Burning Within the City Limits of Kennett 🔥

If you need to burn within the City of Kennett and are unable to reach someone at the Fire Department, please call (573) 888-2409, Option #2 and speak with Dispatch.

Dispatch will be able to advise you whether current wind conditions allow for burning and will notify the Fire Department of your location.

Please remember:
✅ Wind speeds must be below 7 mph to burn within the city limits.
✅ A water hose connected to a water source must be readily available at all times while burning.
✅ Fires must be completely extinguished before sunset.
✅ Never leave a fire unattended and always maintain control of it.

Congratulations Patrolman First Class Moore! Well deserved!

Congratulations to our own Patrolman First Class Justin Moore on his Certificate of Appreciation presented to him by the American Legion for outstanding service!

Officer Moore has always shown incredible service to our city, but this particular day he assisted an elderly female who had lost her vehicle & had been searching for over 4 hours! Thanks to Officer Moore she was able to locate her vehicle and all was well!
Thank you, Officer for your selfless acts and commitment to our city! 👮‍♀️💙🚓

Because the celebrations will be on a whole new scale, these safety reminders are spot-on. The point about sparklers hitting 2,000°F is the one that usually shocks people—that is hot enough to melt gold, yet we routinely hand them to toddlers.

To make this crucial safety information easy to scan, copy, or share with your community, I’ve organized your points into distinct, actionable categories.

🕒 Before You Light Up
Know the Law & the Weather: Check local regulations first. If your region is experiencing a drought, skip the backyard display entirely—dry grass and pyrotechnics are a catastrophic mix.

Give Your Neighbors a Heads-Up: Let people nearby know your plans, especially if they have infants, elderly family members, or pets that could be easily startled.

Prepare Your Safety Zone: Choose a wide, clear, outdoor space far away from houses, vehicles, trees, and dry brush.

Establish a Emergency Buffer: Keep a garden hose, a bucket of water, or a fire extinguisher within arm's reach before you start.

🚀 During the Display
Protect the Kids: Never let young children handle fireworks or sparklers. Swap them out for safer, equally fun alternatives like glowsticks, confetti, or popping streamers.

Protect Your Ears: Fireworks routinely breach 150 decibels (louder than a jet takeoff). Wear ear protection, especially for younger kids.

🚒 TRAINING WEEKEND SUCCESS 🚒
This weekend, members of our department spent their time sharpening skills that are absolutely vital to protecting our community. We hosted a Basic Pump Operations class, focusing on the critical techniques of pumping and drafting.
When every second counts during a fire, knowing how to secure a water supply from any source and deliver it efficiently to the fire ground is a game-changer.
A huge thank you to MU Instructor Zak Haskin for sharing his expertise and delivering an incredible class! We are incredibly proud of our firefighters for their dedication to continuous learning and keeping our community safe.

A huge THANK YOU to Harps for supporting our local heroes and our community!

As part of the celebration of 250 years of the USA, Harps is kicking off a fundraiser on Saturday, June 6, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. All donations collected will benefit the Kennett Fire Department and Kennett Police Department, helping support the equipment and resources needed to continue serving our citizens.

We are incredibly grateful to Harps for recognizing the importance of public safety and for investing back into the community they serve.
