During last week’s regional training night at Station 36, the Kennett Regional Fire Department participated in Part 2 of the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy's Engine Company Operations class taught by Longwood's Deputy Chief of Training, John Poole. Volunteers and staff watched a helmet-cam video of a recent residential fire in our local district and critiqued the engine crews' strategies for fighting the fire as it progressed. Following the classroom portion of the instruction, the class moved outside for demonstrations of hose loads and how certain hose loads can be used to improve a fire attack. Parts 3 and 4 of the class will be held at the West Chester Fire Department Training Center to practice live drills of the classroom material.

Please join us in congratulating Kennett Fire Company No. 1 volunteers Steven Leto and Hunter Sayles on their graduation from the Octorara Homeland Security & Protective Services Academy Firefighter I program! Engine 24 went to the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus to attend the graduation ceremony on Thursday.

The Octorara Homeland Security & Protective Services Program is a three-year PA Department of Education-approved Career Program of Study. The course prepares cadets for careers in law enforcement, corrections, pre-hospital emergency medical care, emergency management, military services, and firefighting. Cadets can earn State and National job-related certifications required for entry-level positions directly upon graduation. The intent is to train qualified, competent, and professional emergency first responders. Cadets are required to join and participate with their local volunteer fire company to enhance learning and hone skills for testing.

Congratulations, Steven and Hunter!👩‍🚒‍🚒🔥🎉🎊
