Our rich history is all around - you just have to take a moment to look. This 1795 date carved into a corner stone on the spring house at Dalkeith Farm. Deserve to preserve. I.P. - Isaac Pyle, Isaac Pierce? Hopefully we will be able to find out.

So many incredible historic structures are at risk of being lost forever - why do we not want to honor and remember the past? Why do towns not want to make every effort/concession to preserve their past? Once gone it is gone forever.

SOLD AND SAVED FOR ANOTHER GENERATION

One of East Marlborough Township’s most significant Historical Resources has hit the market. In the early 1990s, the call to preserve this historic Log Home, one of the last remaining and oldest in our township, was the impetus for the creation of the East Marlborough Historical Commission. This home, constructed around 1840, has been in the same family since 1932. Its current owner was a faithful member of the Historical Commission and served as Secretary for many years. Preservation and a full renovation with an addition occurred in 1996. Check out the listing below.

This wonderful little pamphlet was written by Dorothea R. Flood in 1976 and shares a brief history of East Marlborough Township. Hopefully it will post in order of pages - apologies if it is not.

The Cox House has stood witness to two centuries of Brandywine Valley history. More than just a house, it was a crucial stop on the Underground Railroad and home to Quaker reformers who worked for social justice, abolition, and women’s rights.
To protect this piece of history from road expansion, we successfully relocated the house, which we acquired in 2001, ensuring its ongoing preservation.

One of our Historic Resources in East Marlborough has taken a large step in the right direction towards its future preservation! The Cox House, with its rich history and connection to the Underground Railroad, has been relocated, away from Route One and it’s planned widening. This will allow the building to be renovated and preserve for future generations.

Thanks go out to Longwood Garden for their care and plans for this wonderful Historic Resource.

Longwood Gardens has successfully moved the Cox House, a historic home that once served as a stop on the Underground Railroad.
