Here in Louisiana, we are no strangers to oppressive heat, but it’s easy to underestimate just how dangerous it can get when the heat index starts climbing into the triple digits.

Across the country, extreme heat is actually the deadliest weather-related hazard, causing more fatalities each year than hurricanes, floods, or tornadoes. As summer ramps up and the humidity locks in across Louisiana, looking out for one another is our best line of defense.

Please take a moment to check in on neighbors, family members, and friends, especially those who are most vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.

It was a joy to join our friends at Stonewall Sports NOLA for their Spring Kickball Tournament last month where we provided water, snacks and smiling volunteers!

We’re excited to partner with them again for a Pride Month smoke alarm installation event this weekend. Volunteers will help install free smoke alarms across New Orleans, working to protect our neighbors from home fires, the nation’s most frequent disaster.

All are welcome in our mission and we’re proud to stand alongside our LGBTQ+ volunteers, donors and partners who bring care, connection and hope when it’s needed most.

Bayous, lakes, pools, and rivers... In Louisiana, we're never more than a few steps away from a splash! But before you dive in, let’s make sure we’re diving in safely.

The American Red Cross of Louisiana is tracking water safety all summer long. Our top rule for kicking off the season? Establish the "Permission Rule."

*Teach kids to ask before entering the water.

*This gives adults a second to stop, focus, and designate an official "Water Watcher."

Be water smart and ready to protect your "krew."

Showing up for our community is what the mission is all about. ⛑️ From handing out water to sharing preparedness tips and connecting with future volunteers, our team had a blast at the Riverside Spring Festival last weekend.

Grateful for every volunteer, partner, and supporter who helped make the day meaningful — especially Mayor Marshall Simien Jr., and our partners at Lake Charles City Hall. Together, we make our community stronger!

🚨 Spotted at the Alexandria Mall! 🚨

If you’re walking by the old Bath & Body Works location, you might notice something a little different in the windows. We’ve set up a special, look-back-in-time display featuring vintage American Red Cross volunteer uniforms and promotional posters from the post-WWII era!

These uniforms represent decades of neighbors helping neighbors through thick and thin. Our Louisiana Red Cross CEO, Kenneth St. Charles, even visited the display and honored this incredible history. It’s a beautiful piece of the past from right here in the community, and we’d love for you to stop by and snap a few photos. 📸 ❤️

But that’s not all... Looking back at history also reminds us to prepare for the future.

With June 1st marking the official start of hurricane season, we want to make sure you and your family are ready. While you're checking out the display, please grab some free emergency preparedness materials. From disaster checklist flyers to safety tips, we’ve got everything you need to build your family's game plan.

History is on display, and readiness is in your hands. See you at the mall! 👋 🌀
