Jill O'Malley for Tonawanda

Jill O'Malley for Tonawanda Proud to be serving the Ken-Ton Community as a Town of Tonawanda Councilwoman! I have been a long-standing community advocate in Ken-Ton.

My husband Matt and I live in the Village of Kenmore with our three children Aiden, Maddie, and Tiernan. I am originally from Central NY where I attended Cayuga Community College, Syracuse University (earning a Bachelors in Biology and a Masters in Exercise Science), Finger Lakes School of Massage, and completed my Doctor of Chiropractic Degree from Northeast College of Health Sciences (formally N

YCC). I am a full-time Biology professor at Erie Community College and have been an active member of NYSUT through the Faculty Federation of Erie Community College serving on the Executive Board and Political Action Committee. In 2012, my husband and I co-founded the Ken-Ton Parent Alliance, a grassroots advocacy group formed to inform and involve public school stakeholders to become more involved in their child's education. Through this work, I noticed socioeconomic disparities in our community that were creating an academic gap for our most vulnerable students. To remove those barriers to success, I formed the Ken-Ton Closet in 2013 which provides free clothing, school supplies, and toiletries to children living in the Village of Kenmore/Town of Tonawanda. We are 100% volunteer-run and through the work of our volunteers, we now serve between 700-800 children each year through our programming. In 2014, I was elected to the Board of Education for the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda Union Free School District and was selected by my colleagues to be Board President the following year. I was honored to be chosen by my peers continuously in this capacity until my decision to not to seek re-election in 2020. During my time on the Board, we worked with our local veterans to secure the Veterans Tax Exemption. Coming from a military family, I knew firsthand the positive impact this would have on those that have made the sacrifice to serve our country. I was also pleased to cooperate with our Kenmore Teachers Association, Town of Tonawanda, Erie County, and former Assemblyman Robin Schimminger to help secure the Huntley Mitigation Fund to offset losses due to the loss of PILOT revenue from the closure of the Huntley Power Plant. In 2018, I was fortunate to be selected by the Erie County Association of School Boards as their Associate Director. This position allowed me to develop relationships with our WNY Senate and Assembly delegation and work closely with School Board members across the area to advocate for their Districts. I was recently awarded the ASBO-NY Advocate of the Year Award for my cross-collaborative advocacy efforts. During the summer of 2020, I was appointed as the facilitator for the Tonawanda Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative. This work allowed me to join members of our Town Board, Police Department, and community stakeholders to evaluate our police practices and make recommendations for improvements. Because of the work of this committee, the Town Board has allocated additional resources to meet the needs of our community including adding bike patrol shirts, ATV shifts, presence at Town events, and the continuation/revival of programs such as the Duck Hunt and Fishing Derby. On January 4th, 2021 I was sworn in to the Town of Tonawanda Council to fill the seat vacated by Bill Conrad as he was elected as Assemblyman of the 140th Assembly District. Since my appointment, I have been taking the time to get to know our workers and learn more about the outstanding services they provide to our Town. I have learned so much and I am grateful for their time in teaching me about how we operate. I am the Chair of the Highway, Town Clerk, Street Light, and Insurance Committees. I also serve on the Youth Parks & Rec, Building Maintenance, Vehicle Utilization, Engineering, Information Technology, Building Department, Planning, Zoning Board, and SEQR committees. I am excited to be running for my first full four-year term. I look forward to serving the residents of the Town of Tonawanda! πŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’š

Interview: NYS lawmakers consider moratorium on data centers

06/04/2026

I wanted to take a moment to thank the speakers who gave their thoughts on the Data Center project last night. I am reviewing the comments today which mostly seem in line with the feedback we have been receiving over the last few weeks.

If there was anyone in the room in favor of the project, they did not speak so it was disappointing that some people chose to interrupt others while it was their turn to share their thoughts with the Planning Board. Also, a few clarifications on the Planning Board: they are not elected, they are appointed so threats to them that they will be "voted out" were misplaced. They were asked about their opinions on the project. This is not their job. Their job is to review project design and whether or not that project fits into land use standards. They review compliance with zoning, layout and design, traffic circulation, landscaping and buffering (some people kept shouting about dust control effort questions for another project but this IS the PB's job), drainage and utilities, and consistency with planning goals. They are NOT the SEQR committee which reviews traffic impacts, noise, air quality, water use and wastewater, stormwater runoff, wildlife and habitat, community character, visual impacts, and public services and infrastructure. In the beginning of the meeting, the Chairman read a statement letting the public know this was not a hearing, it was a discussion item for update and that the project was on hold. In my opinion, demanding answers from a body that does not have an actual plan to review is counterproductive.

I have spent the morning reviewing and reflecting upon my notes. We will also monitor the Legislature's decision on the 1 year data center moratorium. And, as the Supervisor has said publicly, the developer has "paused" their plan but we do believe they are still working on the FAQ section of their website. Once we have that link, we will share it.

Hello friends! Please help spread the word. There was an erroneous news report put out that the Town planning board would be having a public hearing tonight regarding the data center. This is not true and this was to only be a discussion item for updates. Please take a look at this article and feel free to share with anyone that has concerns about the proposed data center.

Factors Include NYISO Electricity Allotment and Possible State Moratorium

Friends - The report from Spectrum News regarding this week's Planning Board meeting is not entirely correct. Please see the statement from the Town.

Based on public feedback we have received, we have asked the developer to create a FAQ about their project. If this site is created, the Town will have a link to share with the public. Stay tuned!

The Riverview Innovation & Technology Campus Project at 3875 River Road is on the Planning Board Agenda for Site Plan Review (discussion only, no action). The applicant is NOT providing a formal presentation at this time. Attendees will hear that the Town of Tonawanda is seeking an escrow fee from the applicant to proceed with environmental review and is requesting to be notified when NYISO power allocation has been approved. Questions and comments are welcome.

The Planning Board is scheduled to meet Wednesday, June 3, 2026, 7 p.m., in Council Chambers of the Kenmore-Tonawanda Municipal Building.

As we gather with our loved ones, let’s remember to give thanks to all those that have served our great nation and are no longer here with us. Beautiful ceremonies by the Milton J Brounshidle American Legion Post 205 and our fire companies today to honor those that have passed. Thank you.

Took a break from yard work at my house and stopped down to the Milton J Brounshidle American Legion Post 205 for their Chiavetta’s chicken bbq running now til 5 PM.

You might also notice some sprucing up to the front of the building. The Post Tram was busy yesterday and today working on some improvements. Thank you to everyone who helped out!
