Winter storm expected this afternoon through Monday

• Total snowfall is forecast at 12 to 18 inches, with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour at times. Localized heavier bands and wind gusts of 40 to 45 mph may create blizzard like conditions.

• Heavy, wet snow combined with strong winds may bring down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. If using a generator, never run it indoors or in a garage. Ensure proper ventilation to prevent carbon monoxide buildup.

• Temperatures dropping below freezing may cause pipes to burst. Ensure proper airflow around pipes located along exterior walls and, if possible, allow a steady trickle of water to run to help prevent freezing.

Residents are encouraged to be good neighbors and assist with snow removal efforts:

• Clear at least 3 feet around fire hydrants to assist the Fire Department during emergencies.

• Remove vehicles from roadways to allow Township Public Works to plow curb to curb. Do not shovel snow back into the street.

• Shovel sidewalks within 24 hours after snowfall ends.

Roads will become snow covered and hazardous this evening. Residents are strongly encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel, especially overnight into Monday morning. Your cooperation helps keep roads accessible for emergency responders.

With anticipated winter weather approaching this weekend, South Brunswick OEM advises residents to prepare for potentially hazardous conditions. Forecasts call for significant snowfall with periods of heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain, which may create dangerous travel conditions.

We ask residents to stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel as conditions worsen.

Please take a few moments to prepare your home and neighborhood:
• Ensure all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors have fresh batteries
• Do not use propane or alternative heating sources indoors
• Remove vehicles from all township roadways so plows can keep roads clear
• Clear all fire hydrants, maintaining at least 3 feet of clearance on all sides

Shortly after 16:30 on Saturday, January 17th, the Kendall Park Volunteer Fire Company responded into Monmouth Junction for an All Hands assignment to Brookside Trailer Park for a fully involved mobile home.

Ladder 223 deployed primary and secondary handlines to support interior fire attack, while Engine 221 assisted with exterior operations. Through the quick, coordinated efforts of Monmouth Junction Vol. Fire Department, Kingston Volunteer Fire Company #1, and KPVFC, the fire was successfully contained and prevented from spreading to nearby trailers.

Great work by all companies operating on scene.
