Founded in 1934 by conservationist Rosalie Edge, Hawk Mountain is the world's first refuge for birds of prey.

Visit year-round to enjoy hiking, birding, or hawkwatching. Join as a member to support our raptor conservation mission! The Sanctuary is comprised of 2,600 acres and 8-miles of hiking trails and numerous scenic overlooks. The North Lookout is the location of the "official" hawk migration count in spring and autumn. The Visitor Center consists of exhibits, Wings of Wonder Gallery and bookstore. Our Native Plant Garden and South Lookout trail are handicap accessible.

The search for nesting harriers is on! 🪶

Hawk Mountain’s Pennsylvania Harrier Project team is busy surveying for breeding northern harriers in the fields, marshes, meadows, and farmlands across the Keystone state. Once widespread across these habitats, northern harrier populations are showing dramatic declines due to habitat loss, fragmentation, and changing land use.

To combat this, Hawk Mountain (in collaboration with the PA Game Commission and DCNR) aims to identify remaining nesting sites to determine key reproductive and hunting areas that will help us inform land management strategies that support northern harriers.

You can help the research team by reporting your sightings to our “Harrier Hotline” during the breeding season, May 15 - July 30!
