Sometimes the job calls for hoses… and sometimes it calls for handling something a little more slithery. 🐍

Earlier today, a resident walked outside to find an unexpected passenger lounging on the hood of his car. Before he could say “nope,” the snake slipped inside through an open window and disappeared into the vehicle.

Enter Firefighter/AEMT Steven Kennedy.

After a careful search, Steven tracked the snake down under the hood and safely removed it without incident. Just another day at the office… right?

What makes this even better—Steven isn’t just one of our firefighters at Desoto Fire District 2. He also runs Snaketuary, where this little hitchhiker is headed for a quick evaluation before being released back where it belongs.

Moral of the story:
✔️ Check your surroundings
✔️ Maybe close your windows
✔️ And if you find a snake in your car… call someone who’s got both the gear and the guts 😄

Great work, Steven! 👏

Meet Ladder 23, our newest addition! This 75ft aerial apparatus is a quint, meaning we can pump water and utilize the aerial platform for rescues and firefighting operations. As the sole ladder truck in the northern half of the parish, we're dedicated to enhancing our service to the citizens of Keachie and Gloster, while also being available to assist surrounding areas like Stonewall, District 8, and District 9.

03/22/2026

Please be advised that a controlled burn is being executed on 50 acres surrounding Smyrna Road. Smoke is dispersing as far as Stonewall and is visible from Southern Caddo Parish. The operation is being closely monitored by professionals and we are aware of the situation.

Today we had the opportunity to do some excellent, real-world training on a donated structure here in DeSoto Fire District 2.
Our firefighters conducted live fire training with a strong focus on fire behavior, along with sharpening skills while operating in SCBA and full structural firefighting PPE. We ran multiple live-fire evolutions, building on each rep to keep things safe, controlled, and productive.
After completing the training objectives, we then allowed the structure to burn to the ground to help the property owner remove the building from the property—a win for training and a win for the community.
Training is how we stay ready. Nothing substitutes live fire training when it comes to preparing to perform at the highest level when it counts.
Great job to everyone involved. 👏🔥🚒

We responded last night just before 6:30 PM to what easily could have been a tragic crash on Highway 5. A Jeep crossed the center line and struck a Buick SUV head-on. The force of the collision was tremendous—parts of both vehicles were torn away, the Jeep rolled multiple times, and the Buick slid to rest across a yard.

And somehow… both drivers were restrained and had zero complaints.
Deputy Chief John Phelan said it’s one of the worst wrecks he’s seen in his career, and the outcome is nothing short of incredible.

We’re thankful for the quick help from the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office and Desoto EMS.

🙏 SEATBELTS SAVE LIVES. Please buckle up.

From all of us at DeSoto Fire District 2, we want to wish you a safe and happy New Year as we welcome 2026. 🎆
While we are not under a burn ban, conditions across our area are very dry, and fireworks can ignite grass and woods faster than you can say “where’s the hose?” Please use fireworks responsibly, keep a water source nearby, and never leave anything burning unattended.
If you see smoke or fire, call 911 immediately. Stay safe tonight, and let’s start 2026 with great memories—not a brush fire. 🚒✨
