The Arc of Buffalo County Welcome!

The Arc of Buffalo County is a private non-profit organization which provides services and advocacy to people with developmental disabilities and their families. We provide information, support and networking to people with disabilities and their families through a quarterly newsletter, one-on-one contacts, group presentations and a variety of programs including:

People First of Kearney
Key partner with KIRP, Kearney Inclusive Recreation Project
Buddy Bowling- an 8 week bowling program partnering with UNK volunteers
Teens in Action Youth Programs
Individualized recreation and Respite for all ages
Dances, picnics, and outings
Special Family Events, including Christmas Party and Adaptive Easter Egg Hunt

Nebraska’s Olmstead Plan is a roadmap for building a stronger state where people with disabilities can live, learn, work, and participate fully in their communities. Nebraska’s Olmstead Vision is: “People with disabilities are living, learning, working, and enjoying life in the most integrated setting.”
📣Upcoming Legislative Hearing
On September 18, the HHS Committee and Urban Affairs Committee of the Nebraska Legislature will hold a joint hearing to evaluate progress on the Olmstead Plan, as required by LB 737.

Time: 9:00 AM (Central Time)
Location: State Capitol, Room 1023
*Format: Invited testimony only, attendance welcome.

“As co-chair of the Olmstead Committee, I worked with Brad Meurrens of Disability Rights Nebraska to create a survey for people with disabilities, family members, guardians, friends, and allies.
Survey results will be shared with members of the HHS Committee and Urban Affairs Committee to inform their review of Nebraska’s progress on the Olmstead Plan.
I encourage everyone who is able to attend the hearing to show support for the Olmstead Plan and help make this vision a reality. Please share this information with your network.”

Next up: In depth tour of the law enforcement center!!

Kearney Police Department and Buffalo County Sheriff's Office have invited The Arc of Buffalo County members and Kearney Special Olympics athletes for a special in depth tour. It will be September 14th at 4:00. It will last about 45 minutes. Thank you to Officer Baughman and Sheriff Miller for arranging this tour and to Olivia Borjon for setting it up for us. Anyone who wishes to participate, please let us know so we have an approximate number.
