United Way of the Kearney Area United Way fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person in every community. We are more than fundraisers. We are the hand raisers.

The mission of United Way of the Kearney Area is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community to advance youth opportunity, financial stability and healthy community, and community resiliency for every person. The game changers. We surround a community's most critical problems and we fight. In order to live better, we must LIVE UNITED.

Because of our generous donors, workplace campaign supporters, volunteers, and community partners, we're proud to announce the return of United Way allocation grants for 2026!

These investments support local nonprofit programs focused on Youth Opportunity, Financial Security, and Healthy Community initiatives across Buffalo, Kearney, Franklin, Phelps, Harlan, and Custer counties.

Every funded program goes through our Community Investment process, where trained local volunteers review needs, evaluate outcomes, and help ensure resources are directed where they can make the greatest impact.

United is the Way Everyone Thrives.

As our community cleans up following last night’s storm, the City of Kearney would like to remind residents that tree debris may be taken to the Landfill free of charge.

Please note that commercial tree service companies and those disposing of debris from outside of City limits will still be charged standard disposal fees.

Last week our board met at the Welcome Center for a board retreat.

We started the day off getting to know each other using Strengths Finders with Brenda Yochum. This was a very empowering way to start the retreat and build relationships with our new board members. (Highly recommend!)

In the afternoon we got busy with strategy and planning for our events and programs in the coming year. There is so much good ahead! We can’t wait to share!

Stay tuned!!
