Kaufman County Homestead Day and National Zebu Cattle Club Show Draws Over 600 Attendees
Kaufman County, TX — More than 500 residents and visitors gathered at the Kaufman County Fair Grounds this past Saturday for the semi-annual Kaufman County Homestead Day and National Zebu Cattle Club Show.
The event featured over 40 vendors, exhibitors, nonprofits, and community partners celebrating agriculture, homesteading, and rural traditions through educational demonstrations, livestock exhibits, shopping, and family-friendly activities.
Educational sessions included topics such as egg-to-table practices, raising sheep and goats, processing rabbits, pollinator gardening, and beekeeping.
One of the highlights of the day was the National Zebu Cattle Club Show, where visitors had the opportunity to see the smaller-sized cattle up close and learn why the breed has become popular among homesteaders and small acreage landowners.
“We were excited to be part of Kaufman County Homestead Day and appreciated the warm welcome from the community,” said Brian Highbarger. “Events like this help educate families about livestock opportunities for smaller acreage owners while preserving agricultural traditions for future generations.”
Vendors throughout the grounds offered farm fresh produce, baked goods, canned items, handmade crafts, plants, woodworking and much more.
Families and children enjoyed live music, the free petting zoo, and hands-on kids craft activities throughout the day. The live music and petting zoo were sponsored by Brinson Chevrolet of Kaufman, while the Kids Craft Zone was sponsored by Keep Kaufman County Beautiful.
The event also highlighted community involvement, with nonprofit organizations sharing information about services and resources available to Kaufman County residents.
Among the vendors was Rooted in Kaufman, whose colorful displays helped add an extra splash of creativity and beauty to the event.
“This event truly highlights the heart of Kaufman County,” said Kelsey Davis. “Seeing families learning together, supporting local vendors, and enjoying our agricultural heritage made the day incredibly special.”
Organizers shared that plans are already underway for the next Kaufman Homestead event planned for this fall.
Residents are encouraged to follow the Kaufman Homestead page for updates on future events and activities.

Community Partnerships Shine at Historic Kaufman County Poor Farm During Weekend Events
Kaufman County, TX — The Historic Kaufman County Poor Farm was filled with community spirit, education, and excitement this past Saturday as residents gathered to enjoy the Kaufman County Farmers Market and celebrate the grand opening of the new Pollinator Garden.
The successful event highlighted the power of partnerships and volunteerism as organizations across Kaufman County worked together to create a welcoming space focused on agriculture, beautification, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.
One of the highlights of the day was the official opening of the Pollinator Garden, a beautiful educational garden installed by the Kaufman County Master Gardeners. The garden was designed to support bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators that play a vital role in the environment and local food systems.
Visitors had the opportunity to tour the garden, ask questions, and learn about the importance of planting pollinator-friendly landscapes at home and throughout the community.
The Kaufman County Farmers Market also brought together local vendors, growers, artisans, and families for a morning filled with fresh produce, handmade goods, plants, baked items, and community fellowship. The market continues to grow as a popular destination where residents can support local businesses while enjoying the historic atmosphere of the Poor Farm property.
“The Historic Poor Farm continues to become a place where partnerships bloom,” organizers shared. “Through collaboration between volunteers, nonprofits, community groups, and county partners, this property is becoming a true hub for education, gardening, beautification, and community connection.”
