Chief Gaw and Emergency Management Coordinator Ruben Martinez joined other Fort Bend school districts and law enforcement leaders for a press conference on school safety today.

Eight days before school begins for many Fort Bend families, law enforcement officers, school district leaders, elected officials, and community leaders spoke at a joint press conference to share the updated school safety plan for the coming school year.

Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan, Representative Ron Reynolds (D-Texas House District 27), and Representative Jacey Jetton (R-Texas House District 26) led in briefing the media on increased security and innovative measures to ensure the safety of Fort Bend schools.

Law enforcement officials provided updates on the improved methods used to assess and eliminate active-shooter threats and incidents, including improvements to mental health resources. School leaders and the state representatives spoke about school safety funding, security policies, and incident response procedures.

"Law enforcement agencies are working together to protect the most precious possession in our state – our children,” Sheriff Fagan said. "We have an ongoing and increased commitment to school safety in Fort Bend County.”

It is with great sadness and heartfelt sympathies to the family that we announce the passing of Corporal William Brown. William began his career in Katy ISD as a Security Guard at Memorial Parkway Junior High in 1995, he then became a certified peace officer in 1999. William served as a campus officer and Detective before working his way up to Corporal. William served with distinction and honor throughout his career recognized as a big man with a big heart. You will me missed "Big Will", we have the watch from here.
