After a brief break, rain and storm chances return tonight into Wednesday morning.
The setup is familiar because this has been the pattern lately: storms develop well west of us, move across Texas overnight, and then the big question becomes how strong they are by the time they reach Southeast Texas. Models are in decent agreement that a line or complex of storms may move toward the Katy area after midnight, with the most likely timing around the 1 AM timeframe.
Rainfall totals may vary quite a bit depending on how the storm line holds together and whether heavier cells move over the same locations. Some areas may only see a quick round of rain, while others could see heavier rainfall, ponding, or street flooding develop during the overnight and early morning hours.
Main things to watch tonight into Wednesday morning:
๐ง๏ธ Periods of moderate to heavy rain
โก Lightning
๐จ Gusty winds, mainly below severe limits
๐ Ponding or street flooding in poor drainage areas
๐ Reduced visibility during heavier rain
โฐ Possible impacts to the early Wednesday commute
The severe weather threat is on the lower end, but a few stronger storms could still produce gusty winds. The main concern remains heavy rain falling quickly, especially overnight and early Wednesday when water on roads is harder to see.
A few reminders:
โ
Check the forecast before going to bed
โ
Check radar before heading out Wednesday morning
โ
Give yourself extra time if rain impacts the commute
โ
Never drive through water over the road
โ
Have more than one way to receive weather alerts
This is another โcheck before you goโ setup. It may be quiet when you go to sleep and raining when you wake up, because apparently the atmosphere enjoys overnight scheduling.
We will continue monitoring the forecast and share updates as needed.
