Not the result we wanted last night but I wouldn't change a thing with how we ran this campaign. All those months ago I started this process with a few simple goals.
Unite the many different communities in this county to prepare for the coming changes and challenges we will all face.
Return to "back to the basics" governance with an emphasis on getting projects done right at the right cost.
Bring new perspectives and my experience working with state and local governments to the table as we prepare for 50,000 new residents in the county.
In pursuing these goals we knocked on nearly 3,000 doors, registered dozens of new voters, and engaged with folks across the precinct ranging from long-standing families to, in one case, registering voters who had been in their new house for two days just hours before the registration deadline. It takes a special campaign to unite some of the folks in this county the way we did and being given that opportunity is something I will be forever grateful for.
I want to give a special shout out to all of the great leaders, candidates, and officials we got to know over the past few weeks. I'll spare some of yall the headache of a direct tag but Waller County has some great leaders with some more coming in 2025 and I look forward to supporting them for years to come. Thank you to everyone who all took time from their busy schedules to watch the kids, donate their hard earned money or even donate their time to come walk houses. To Jim Sebastian and Donna Sebastian , who drove up to knock on hundreds of doors the past few weekends. To Scott Caffrey and Rebecca Brimer Caffrey for spending something around 200 hours watching the kids the last two months. And to Alisha Caffrey Sebastian. Love might be hard to define but knocking on nearly 3,000 doors and driving hundreds of miles across the county for someone has to meet that definition. This effort would never have gotten off the ground if it wasn't for her.
"It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose, that isn't weakness, that's life." I come back to this quote a lot and while I'm not sure what the future holds, I earnestly believe the effort we put in and the basics of our message turned heads and inspired folks. For example, yesterday while sitting at the Adams Flat location I received a message out of the blue from someone we talked to a few weeks ago, "It was a pleasure meeting you and we still have your sign in our yard. We voted for you today my husband and I chose you because we believe in your message. God bless you."
I've joked that if this week doesn't go well, my plan is to go to the Rodeo and have some margaritas. This week, that is absolutely my intention. But I also promised yall dedication, diligence, and the bold pursuit of leadership and the good governance this country sorely needs.
And next week, we will sit down and figure out how to continue that pursuit.
Thank you for your support and thank you for this experience. God bless.
