The main line of storms is moving out of Houston County now but the threat is not completely gone. We are expecting showers off an on the rest of the evening along with the potential for gusty winds. This may cause additional trees to come down so please use caution if you have to be out.

Emergency personnel are out working to clear a few areas already along with power crews fixing lines. If you come across any of these crews, please slow down and give them plenty of room to work.

Main line is approaching quickly and has several areas of broad rotation. If these areas tighten up it will likely occur very quickly with little warning meaning tornado warnings will be very short notice. Stay alert and watch for alerts.

Everyone please take a moment to watch todays weather update from our friends at the National Weather Service.

Later this afternoon the remnants of Arthur will pass through Houston County bringing the potential for heavy rains and wind. Also expect the possibility of Severe Thunderstorms.

With the high rain rates expected with this system, we will likely experience some Flash Flooding / Urban Flooding. This will primarily impact our roads so please use extreme caution if you have to get out during the storm.

The 2nd major concern will be the potential for winds even after the system passes. With the rain we have already received in the last few weeks plus what's coming with this storm, trees will likely come down. If you encounter a tree across the road, please call 911 and do not attempt to remove on your own. Many of these areas may have overhead power lines that become entangled in the tress as they fall creating a deadly situation if not handled appropriately.

Most of all, we want everyone to remain safe and ensure you have a way to receive alerts. If you haven't already done so, visit the county website and click the alert sign up button.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...Portions of central, east central, north central,
northeast, northwest, and west central Georgia, including the
following areas, in central Georgia, Baldwin, Bibb, Bleckley,
Butts, Crawford, Crisp, Dooly, Houston, Jasper, Jones, Monroe,
Peach, Pulaski, Putnam, Twiggs and Wilkinson. In east central
Georgia, Greene, Hancock and Washington. In north central Georgia,
Barrow, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth,
Gwinnett, Henry, Morgan, Newton, North Fulton, Rockdale, South
Fulton and Walton. In northeast Georgia, Oconee. In northwest

- Multiple rounds of rainfall are expected beginning Thursday
morning through Friday evening. A significantly moist tropical
environment across GA will support high rain rates and increased
chances for flash flooding. Widespread rainfall of 2 to 4 inches
will be possible with locally higher amounts of 5 inches or more.
Urban areas, and areas with poor drainage, will be the most
susceptible to flash flooding.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.

HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING
* WHAT...Heat index values up to 105 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central, east central, north central,
northeast, southeast, and west central Georgia.

* WHEN...From noon today to 8 PM EDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.
