Community Engagement Opportunity:

Sheriff Bailey and the KCSO would like to express our gratitude to the Karnes County community for the generous donations recently.

As we prepare for Halloween and the upcoming holiday community events, the KCSO is once again seeking the support of our community through donations to help make these events successful and memorable for local families and children.

At this time, we are accepting donations of candy for our Halloween events through October. We will be participating in several community events during the month and would greatly appreciate any contributions. In addition to candy, the KCSO is also accepting fidget toys, small party favors, and monetary donations so that event items can be purchased.

Your generosity and support play an important role in helping the KCSO create positive experiences for the families we serve, and we sincerely appreciate your consideration.

Fire:

On Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 4:18 PM, the KCSO, along with the Runge Volunteer Fire Department, Gillett Volunteer Fire Department, Karnes City Volunteer Fire Department, Kenedy Volunteer Fire Department, and the Nordheim Volunteer Fire Department responded to a large scale grass fire in the area of the 4000 block of County Road 115.

This fire is believed to be the result of a lightning strike and is quickly spreading due to the dry and windy conditions in the area.

Assistance has been requested from additional fire resources, along with community members with heavy equipment, including Runge Mayor Parker, who have responded to help.

The public is asked to avoid the area as this fire is fast moving and has already crossed roadways creating hazards for property owners and motorists alike.

As of this posting, no injuries are believed to have occurred as a result of this incident.

Any pertinent information and/or updates will be announced at a later time and as needed.

Sheriff Bailey and the KCSO were kindly visited by members of the Emergency Care of Floresville earlier today, who dropped off some goodies in support of their Hometown Heroes program.

Residential Structure Fire:

On September 9, 2026, at 1:59 PM the KCSO, along with the Gillett Volunteer Fire Department, the Karnes City Volunteer Fire Department, and the Karnes County EMS responded to a residential structure fire within the 300 block of County Road 281, near State Highway 80 in the Gillett/Karnes County, TX community.

Upon arrival of first responders, the residence was found to be fully engulfed. The ensuing preliminary investigation found that no one was home at the time of the fire and at this time, no injuries are believed to have occurred as a result of this incident.

This is an active and ongoing scene with many first responders working in the area. The public is asked to avoid the area.

Any pertinent information that develops at the conclusion of this initial investigation, will be provided at a later time.

Runge ISD Homecoming 2026 Parade:

Sheriff Bailey and the KCSO gladly accepted the invitation to come participate in and support the Runge ISD Homecoming 2026 parade this evening.

Various roadways throughout the Runge area will be temporarily blocked as the kids navigate the parade route, but this should not take too long.

Travelers and motorists in the area are asked to use caution while this school event is taking place as there are many people enjoying the festivities.

These funds will go toward upcoming community engagement projects that will be hosted by the KCSO. Without these partnerships, engagement projects would sadly be less frequent.

The KCSO is proud to be linked to Devon Energy Corporation as a community partner that help to make Karnes County, TX a great place to live.

Much gratitude goes out to the community organizations that provided lunch for everyone assigned to court duty for the Murder trial that occurred this week here in Karnes County, TX.

Court duty of this magnitude is time and resource consuming. These donations significantly helped in keeping a smooth operation going.
