On Sunday May 25th, 2026, Sheriff Steven Bailey had the honor of attending the United States Senator John Cornyn 2026 Service Academy Send-off Ceremony in San Antonio, Texas, recognizing the outstanding young men and women who have answered the call to serve our nation through our United States Service Academies.

Sheriff Bailey understands firsthand the pride and sacrifice that comes with military service, as he has children who have proudly served — and another one preparing to serve in the future. Seeing the next generation step forward to defend our country makes this event especially meaningful to him and his family.

We congratulate all of the students selected for this incredible opportunity and thank them for their commitment, courage, and dedication to serving the United States of America. Your community is proud of you, and we wish each of you success as you begin this honorable journey.

Thank you to Senator John Cornyn and everyone involved in supporting these future leaders of our armed forces.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our nation. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy each day and will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, we ask our community to pause and reflect on the true meaning of this day — remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

From all of us at Karnes County Sheriff’s Office, we extend our gratitude to the fallen heroes and their families.
