DHHL Broadband

DHHL Broadband Bringing affordable, fast, and reliable broadband to Hawaiian home lands. We’re part of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.

DHHL’s Broadband program works to ensure households and businesses on Hawaiian home lands have access to phone and internet services that are affordable, fast and reliable. We advocate on behalf of DHHL lessees and coordinate with telecommunications service providers. Additionally, we develop programs to help DHHL beneficiaries acquire the digital skills and tools necessary to utilize the internet for health care, jobs, education and other essential services.

The internet helps us stay connected to information, services and one another, but it’s important to stay alert when using email, text messages or websites.

Before tapping a link or sharing personal information, take a moment to check who it came from. If a message feels rushed, unfamiliar or too good to be true, it may be a scam.

When in doubt, ask someone you trust before responding. A few extra seconds can help keep you and your ʻohana safe online.

From morning meetings to site visits in the field, our interns get a firsthand look at the work helping expand broadband access across Hawaiian Home Lands. Along the way, they’re learning more about teamwork, planning and what it takes to keep projects moving.

Students can apply through the State of Hawai'i Department of Labor & Industrial Relations ’ Hele Imua program, a 12-week internship that gives participants exposure to high-demand occupations in state government.

Today we honor King Kamehameha I, whose leadership united the Hawaiian Islands and left a lasting legacy of strength, vision and aloha ʻāina.

King Kamehameha Day is a time to reflect on the history, resilience and unity of the Hawaiian people, and the kuleana we share to support Native Hawaiian communities for generations to come.

His legacy continues to inspire our work at the DHHL Broadband Program as we help connect beneficiary communities across the pae ʻāina to the resources, services and opportunities that support a thriving future.

Did you know the Hawaiian term for high-speed internet is Ka Pūnaewele Wikiwiki Loa?

The phrase combines pūnaewele, meaning network, with wikiwiki loa, meaning very fast.

As broadband access continues to expand, high-speed internet helps connect ʻohana across Hawaiian Home Lands to education, telehealth, services and opportunities.

When emergencies happen, preparation and communication matter.

A Go Bag can help you and your ʻohana evacuate quickly with essentials like water, food, a first aid kit, flashlight, extra batteries, phone charger, backup battery and more.

Reliable broadband can also support emergency preparedness by helping communities receive alerts, access updates and stay connected with loved ones.

Ho‘omaika‘i, Micah!

From intern to full-time team member, Micah Schoefield is stepping into his new role as a Broadband Specialist with the DHHL Broadband Program.

Micah first joined the team as an intern, driven by a passion for helping expand internet access across Hawai‘i. Now, he will continue that work in a full-time role, supporting efforts to connect communities and help more local families access the tools they need to learn, grow and thrive.

We’re excited to see all that’s ahead for Micah as he continues making a difference for communities across the state.
