We manage beach parks to botanical gardens, playgrounds to campgrounds on the island of O‘ahu. Aloha and welcome to the City and County of Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation! From playgrounds to camp grounds, beach parks to botanical gardens, there is sure to be a facility near you. Enjoy a picnic at a regional park or lift some weights at a gym. Swim laps in a pool or ride the ramps at a skate park. It’s all yours! The department also provides year-round recreation programs for all ages. Register your keiki in one of our popular Summer Fun programs, shop for locally grown produce at our People’s Open Markets or grow your own in a community garden. Our facilities also host a wide variety of activities throughout the year including concerts, fairs, competitions and cultural exhibitions. For example, our Nā Hula Festival at Kapi`olani Park is the longest running, non-competitive hula event in the state. We can surely help you find the activities that you want. Everyone in our department is dedicated to keeping our island green, our residents and visitors happy and our facilities operating. Enjoy the outdoors and remember, “We Add Quality to Life!”

Ready for a role where every great experience starts with you? We are looking for motivated Cashier-Clerks! This full-time, permanent role, located in Hanauma Bay, involves collecting visitor fees, processing payments, assisting the public, and handling daily cash and clerical duties.

What You Will Do
• Collect visitor fees by operating cash registers and processing admission and parking payments.
• Verify visitor information to determine applicable fees, discounts, and payment types.
• Balance daily cash by reconciling receipts, register tapes, refunds, and deposits.
• Assist visitors by providing information on park hours, fees, transportation, and rules.
• Complete daily closing duties by preparing reports, securing cash, and cleaning cashiering areas.
• Perform other related duties as needed.

Special Working Conditions
• Work schedule is Wednesday - Sunday from 6:15 a.m. until 2:45 p.m., off Monday and Tuesday.
• May work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs.
• This position will serve as a Disaster Response worker during declared emergencies.

The majority of Koko Crater Botanical Garden will be reopening Tuesday, October 6, 2026, with most of the work to remove damaged tree branches complete.

Some additional cleanup is needed to fully reopen the garden, so please avoid those areas as crews work to restore safe public access.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while the garden was closed for just under a week. Take care and stay healthy.

It's about to get spooky in Kāne‘ohe! Join us for a free BOO-th Bash at Kāne‘ohe District Park's Tennis Courts on Friday, October 23 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

There you can enjoy a Family Tent-a-Treat event with games and trick-or-treating in a safe and fun environment!

Dress up in your costume, play games at each of the decorated tents, and get your “spook-tent-ular" treats!

Registration is required for each household member attending, adults and keiki, with advanced registration online in the "Activities" section of pros.hnl.info

For late registration, come to the registration tent on the day of the event.

As a reminder, non-service animals are not currently allowed at Kāne‘ohe District Park. Please also park in marked stalls only (no parking on grass or red-curbed areas), and be safe with all of the keiki enjoying this Halloween event!

Pride month is here, and our Talk Story Festival will kick off a month of Pride in Paradise beginning tomorrow, Friday, October 2 at 5:30 p.m.!

This year’s event will be held in the historic Mission Memorial Auditorium, highlighting the islands’ māhū culture and the rich, powerful narratives that have shaped it for generations. Everyone is welcome to this free event, whether you’re a longtime member of the LGBTQ+ community, an ally, a curious visitor, or simply love a good story.

Enjoy this safe, inclusive space to celebrate love, diversity, and the island spirit, while experiencing these inspiring stories first-hand. Free parking is available in the City’s Municipal Lot near Beretania and Alapa‘i streets after 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

Koko Crater Botanical Garden is closed effective today, September 30, 2026, due to dangerous conditions posed by several damaged tree branches.

The garden will remain closed until further notice to allow City arborists and contractors time to remove the hazards and restore the garden to usable conditions.
