❤️ 🚒🚒After 25 Years, 4 Months, and 1 Day… Captain Cory Is Officially Retired ❤️ 🚒🚒
Today marks the end of a chapter that has shaped our family for over two decades. After 25 years, 4 months, and 1 day of serving the City of Abbeville Fire Department, Captain Cory is officially retired.
It’s hard to wrap words around what that kind of commitment really means. It means holidays spent at the station, nights broken by alarms, long shifts, hard calls, and years of putting other people’s emergencies before his own life. It means courage, sacrifice, and a heart that never hesitated to serve.
But what many people don’t see is that while he was giving everything to the fire department, he was also pouring his heart into his second calling—horses. Late evenings in the arena after long shifts… weekends teaching, training, and helping others… building Bourque Horsemanship one relationship at a time. He didn’t just have two jobs—he had two passions, and he gave everything he had to both.
Now, with retirement here, Cory finally gets to breathe. To rest. And to turn more fully toward the horses and horsemanship that have quietly been part of his life every step of the way. This isn’t a new chapter so much as a chance to finally give time to the parts of life he had to squeeze into the margins for so long.
To say we are proud is an understatement.
We are grateful.
We are inspired.
And we are so excited to see what comes next.
From Nicole, Hunter, and Haylee:
We love you, we’re proud of you, and we’re thankful for every sacrifice you made for us and for your community. Congratulations on your retirement. Here’s to the next chapter—one filled with peace, joy, and the horses who’ve been waiting for you. ❤️🐴🔥
