Another annual retreat down! 💚

Three days of coming together, showing up for each other, and figuring out how to be better as a team. We talked about our working styles, celebrated our strengths, and made some art along the way.

This team is something special. Grateful to do this work with all of them!

Last week, Jarion (Associate Director of Program Strategy & Operations), Alicia (Peer Support & Internship Program Manager), and Lexi (JVC intern and Case Manager) represented JTNL at the Violence Prevention Fund luncheon hosted by Justice System Partners!

The event included breakout rooms where leaders from across the city facilitated discussions on different aspects of violence prevention. JTNL’s very own Jarion was asked to lead one of those rooms and we couldn’t be more proud!

The team also got to meet AY Young — Kansas City native, UN Young Leader, and founder of the Battery Tour. His energy and passion for the city was inspiring to witness.

The luncheon was beautiful, impactful, and a reminder of the power of partnership. Huge thank you to Justice System Partners and everyone who continues to show up for this work!

This is what love looks like!

Father Waris and Nick, our Director of Client Services, went on a shopping trip together. Father Waris came back with 14 pairs of brand new men's shoes to fill up our First Stop room.

He is always thinking about the needs of the people at JTNL. Not just the big picture, but the small things that actually make a difference, like a pair of shoes that fit.

At our main office on Troost, we saw over 1,200 clients last year. 80% of them were men. Right now, we see about 130 unique individuals every month walking through our door looking for help. A load of brand new shoes? That will last us about a week.

A week.

That's how high the need is. And that's why this matters.

A brand new pair of shoes might not seem like a big thing, but for a man coming home from incarceration, it's dignity. It's someone seeing him. It's a fresh start that starts at the ground level.

Thank you, Father Waris, for always showing up and thank you to everyone who helps keep our First Stop room full!

Interested in helping someone start with a fresh foot forward? We are always in need of men's shoes and clothing. New or gently used. Reach out to [email protected] or call our office at 816-960-4808 with questions. Drop off at 3120 Troost Ave.

We are so grateful to have been chosen as a site location for Graceway Church's Serve Day! 🙌

Yesterday, 13 incredible volunteers spent their Saturday weeding, raking, and cleaning the yard at Journey House. The "before and after" is honestly amazing—our fence and sidewalk were completely covered in weeds, and now they're totally clear!

But the day didn't stop there. After they served us, we served them lunch. Four of our Journey House residents shared their stories.
We broke bread. We talked about reentry. We learned from each other.

Out of all the ways they could have spent their Saturday, they chose to spend it with the women of Journey House. We are so grateful for this fantastic group and the beautiful community we built together.

Thank you, Graceway! 💚

Journey to New Life is proud to be named a United Way of Greater Kansas City Impact 100 Partner for 2026!

We're excited to receive unrestricted funding from United Way that will allow us to serve more men and women returning home from incarceration with case management, peer support, employment assistance, and a community that never gives up on them.

We're inspired every day by the resilience of our clients and the people who show up for them.

Thank you, United Way of Greater Kansas City, for recognizing and supporting our vital work!

It's a great day to volunteer at JTNL 💚

Especially when you're part of the crew that runs our basement clothing store! These folks sort through donations, figure out what we're missing, and make sure our clients can shop with dignity. They literally run the show!

Thank you to every volunteer who spends time in that basement. You're the reason someone can walk out with a fresh start and a good shirt!

Today, we are so proud of this graduate! 🎓

Congratulations to Peace House community member Stevie for graduating from JTNL’s reentry program! On top of completing her benchmarks, she also secured her spot in a welding training program and is moving to her very own first place. While we are sad she’s leaving the coop, we are so excited to see all the places she’ll go!

Everyone, please congratulate this graduate on her amazing accomplishments!

As we head into the holiday weekend, we want to take a moment to celebrate Ciera Pierce, our new Director of Residences, and the entire Case Management team!

Our new food pantry is officially up and running, and on its first day, 13 case management clients came through the door. That's 13 people who left with groceries for their families.

Right now, the pantry is open for clients in case management as we figure out how to best serve our community, especially those who don't qualify for SNAP or other benefits. There's a real gap there and we're learning how to fill it.

We launched this program to combat food insecurity for people returning home from incarceration. Seeing the numbers come in today tells us the need for this additional support is there.

How to support: We're accepting canned goods, dried goods, and new household cleaning products. Drop off anytime Monday-Friday at 3120 Troost Avenue from 10am to 5pm. Know any easy and nutritional recipes? Please submit them to [email protected]!

Congratulations to Ciera and the team for getting this off the ground! We are so excited to serve our clients more intentionally and to be that additional support system as they work hard at rebuilding and flourishing in case management!
