A routine tornado siren test is a scheduled test of the community's outdoor warning sirens. The sirens are activated briefly to ensure the system is working properly.

If you hear the siren during today's scheduled test (June 3, 2026, at 11 a.m.), there is no emergency and no action is needed. The test is only being conducted to verify that the warning system is functioning correctly.

On Friday, May 29, a Grain Valley Police Department patrol vehicle was involved in an unusual traffic crash near OOIDA at RD Mize Road.

A semi-tractor trailer attempted to back up in traffic to allow a large fifth-wheel travel trailer to complete a turn when the driver struck a marked GVPD patrol vehicle stopped behind the semi, pushing the patrol vehicle backwards several feet. Thankfully, the officer inside was not injured.

Afterwards, traffic in the area was reduced to one lane for a short period while the Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated the crash and completed the accident report.

We appreciate the witness who assisted troopers during the investigation, as well as the passing motorist who checked on the officer’s welfare following the crash. The patrol vehicle sustained damage and will be repaired before being returned to service.

Please remember to drive attentively, use caution when backing up, and always wear seat belts!
