Kicking off week with an amazing story of perseverance and success! We have completed the Kansas City’s Levees civil works mega project, a massive undertaking to reduce flood risk in the .

Despite facing an aggressive schedule, a historic flood in 2019, a global pandemic and record inflation, the team delivered. This 17-mile project of new floodwalls, improved levees and upgraded pump stations now protects 30,000 residents and over $10 billion of economic infrastructure in Kansas City, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri.

It’s a testament to the power of teamwork, community partnership and engineering excellence. Congratulations to the entire team on this monumental achievement!

🎧Tuttle Creek Lake ASMR: Sights & Sounds of Water
Experience the sights and sounds of Tuttle Creek Dam’s outlet channel in action (recorded June 30, 2026) releases were around 10,000 cfs.

When upstream runoff elevates the lake pool, we utilize outlet conduits to carefully release stored water. This allows us to reclaim flood-control capacity for future storms.

The roaring white water and massive spray in the stilling basin aren’t just a great visual. The concrete blocks beneath the water actively absorb the gravitational energy and protect the force of the water from damaging the stream channel.

We were honored to welcome Major General Jason E. Kelly, the HQ Deputy Commanding General for Civil Works and Emergency Operations, to Smithville Lake last week.

MG Kelly visited the lake to review project operations, tour the visitor center and nearby recreation areas, and receive briefings on key regional planning studies.

While touring the project, MG Kelly met with some maintenance workers to congratulate them on their leadership and ingenuity. USACE staff utilized agriculture lease funds to clear, excavate and armor nearly 700 linear feet of shoreline at Smithville Lake, mitigating erosion and preserving critical flood storage; rebuilt degraded knife gates at Blue Springs Lake, saving over $100,000 in taxpayer dollars; and executed in-house road repairs across multiple lakes to maximize operational efficiency.

This visit underscores our commitment to building infrastructure, not paperwork, in the . Thanks for visiting, MG Kelly, and we hope to host you again soon!

Since the historic 2019 flood on the , we have been laser-focused on repairing and replacing vital river structures to sustain our navigation mission. We are proud to report our team is currently 95% complete on $275 million in contracts for these critical repairs.

This massive recovery effort is a perfect example of how we are building infrastructure, not paperwork. We are committed to delivering tangible, on-the-ground results that keep the Missouri River a safe and reliable economic artery for the heartland and the nation.
