On this Juneteenth, the Kansas City Indian Center (KCIC) commemorates the day when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom on June 19, 1865. KCIC stands in solidarity with the Black community.

We honor Juneteenth not just as a historical milestone, but as a call to continue the shared work of dismantling injustice and building a future where all communities thrive in dignity and self-determination.

Attention Relatives- We are conducting a community survey focused on the experiences of urban Native Americans' voting participation.

We want to hear from you if:
You identify as Native American/Indigenous
You are 18 years of age or older

Participants can receive a $25 gift card in appreciation of their time.

The goal of this project is straightforward: to understand community needs, create more connections with each other and to build our own Native-centered voting data so we can better understand voting trends, identify barriers, and find meaningful ways to increase voter turnout in our communities.

Interviews will be conducted by a team partnered with the Kansas City Indian Center. Interviews can be conducted by phone call, Zoom, or in person, whichever is most convenient for you. Your response will remain confidential and will be used solely to inform community-driven efforts and to support voter participation. If you or someone you know is interested in participating or would like more information, please reach out to us at these emails:

We ask that you share this opportunity with any Native friends, family, or community members you know who may be interested.

Thank you for your time and for helping us build data that reflects and serves our community.

🛎️ Remember that a car can become dangerously hot in just minutes, even when the outside temperature feels “comfortable.” Children are especially vulnerable to heatstroke, and cracking a window or parking in the shade does not keep them safe.
Always look before you lock, keep cars locked when parked so children cannot climb in on their own, and never leave a child alone in a vehicle for any amount of time. Sharing this message today can help prevent a tragedy tomorrow.

Millions across the U.S. are facing their first round of summer heat this week! 🌡️🥵

Your first instinct on a 90-degree day may be to get in the car, crank the AC to max and sit there, but there’s a much faster way to clear out stagnant air. ⤵️

And remember: a parked car gets dangerously hot instantly. Never leave a child alone in a vehicle — not even for a second.
